Extras + doodle:
"Down, boy!"
I'm finally starting to lose my fear of drawing fanart and using more cartoony art styles (yay?). My injured hand was driving me ABSOLUTELY INSANE while making this piece of fanart for a dying trend, smh. Still, I had so much fun! I NEED TO FINISH MY DRAWINGS MORE FREQUENTLY!!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!!
Saw someone say "to be good at animating, you have to be woke" and it's a weird thing to say as if, for the last 10 or so years, we didn't witness the Beanmouth aesthetic and modern cartoons being stiff, lazy and basic.
A style that can be traced to leftwing artists and even Tumblr/fandom circles.
Even these same people defending outsourced animation too.
(Then again, maybe their only frame of reference is recent stuff like TADC, so they'll never mention Aeon Flux or Heavy Metal).
And also a mindset that thinks RW animation is just New Norm Complains About The Woke Beer cartoon.
A lot of guys I follow that talk animation history post golden age stuff, SpumCo stuff, Ralph Bakshi etc and they're anything but woke, they're just dudes with their own varied opinions.
Hell, Spumdonor is clearly conservative and he says stuff I don't agree with but I can't imagine anyone doing a better "How Disney Stole Your Childhood" series than him (SPECIALLY since a lot of people online refuse to criticize Disney, either from being too into Fandom Culture or because they associate some legit opinions with someone like John K).
And this isn't even getting into Toon Fandom people thinking SpongeBob is "overanimated".
Smiling Friends was the biggest AdultSwim show and one of its creators is a popular Newgrounds guy who is kinda lefty but still laughed at SJW stuff and his beliefs don't line up with a lot of woke artists.
If you wanna see GOOD Woke Animation from the past, you could bring up that BODY BEAUTIFUL short by Joanna Quinn & Les Mills | Beryl Productions, which is nothing at all like Owl House or Steven Universe.
In the same way that some old school RW guy doing fun Spum stuff is not the same as New Norm or whatever.
Good art can come out of anyone regardless of politics (Specially in an age where politics is messier, mainly because of internet subcultures people want to memoryhole for the sake of "Being Heckin Normal" and hidind skeletons in their closets).
