Happy Maypril Fool's Day! (IYKYK) I've wanted to do a full-strip homage to Walt Kelly's BRILLIANT and gorgeous comic strip, POGO, for a while now and I had a LOT of fun working on this one! And yes, I wrote and drew this on the 22nd of February, which is often a cause of minor stress with scheduling as I hate waiting so long to run these after drawing them. INKTOBER DAY 27: BIG - Barb (Martha Plimpton) from 'Sprung' (created by Greg Garcia), and her BIG personality.
After all the personal tragedy and trauma I experienced during (who am I kidding, even now part of my chronic illness diagnosis is 'long covid') the pandemic, I never, ever, in a million years would have thought a comedic modern day take on a Robinhood story, set during said pandemic, would be something I would enjoy, let alone be something cathartic that would actually help me process some of the grief and loss from that period of my life.
If you haven't watched 'Sprung,' I highly recommend you at least look it up (I watched it on Prime, it's one season with nine episodes). If you liked the shows 'My Name is Earl' or 'Raising Hope' (both created by Garcia), then I know you will like this show. It was also awesome to have Plimpton and Garret Dillahunt back on screen together (both from 'Raising Hope').

Heyo everyone! Not too shabby of work today eh? (It's cuz I had coffee-)...
I had a few thoughts on how this was gonna turn out but I think it mostly looks so good because I actually did a margin sketch for it above the previous folded page. Margin sketches were basically a thing I did in middle school and when I was peek in my art and it helped plan the sketch out before I actually started drawing and I'm pretty sure they helped significantly so I've been trying them again latley. Don't have as much space for more but hopefully will start using them again in the future to help me out. Especially with all this brain fog.
The idea "sprung" from some flowers and a kind of SPRING action into the air with Flug. Literally. Was gonna have him observe the rhino but then realized it would be much better to do it like this. I really tried thinking of the topic itself and how I could implement the traits better. BH of course is ticking it off when Flug IS just trying to write down and study it. Pulling the tail in the back. The backgrounds have also been kind of similar because of the sort of matching environments and words. Hiking, mountains, stuff like that... so you might notice it a bit more in the last couple posts.
I should really get going now as my car only has 4 lines and I'm just sitting here writting pfft- Got some new liner pens so those should help me a tad more too!
