sprite sheets used to be squished and crowded!!
when every byte of graphics data mattered it was very important to save as much rom space as possible, so you would always see stuff like this. these tiles were arranged and flipped by the console to create the animations you see on screen!
developers don't need to do this anymore, so it's kinda a dying art in that sense, but you still get to do this when making games for old consoles like gameboy! it's very fun actually
(for those curious why there's some repeating tiles here, the gameboy made you choose either 8x16 or 8x8 tiles for All sprites, but the sprite limits per screen remained the same regardless of what you chose, so this sheet is designed with 8x16 tiles in mind so i can use more)
