How did Spottedpelt and Gorseclaw end up dying? Natural causes or more of Redstar and Seedstar being assholes?
They both technically die of natural causes. But Seedstar (who was leader when they both died) was excessively careless with how she assigned them to patrols and battles... sort of an "oh no, how could this happen?"
Gorseclaw dies to a badger on patrol. Seedstar orders a retreat and he falls behind. She, of course, isn't terribly concerned with his safety. Soo... at the back of the pack... the badger murks him.
I elaborated on Kestrelwing's death here but forgot to say Spottedpelt also died in that battle. So heres the rundown if you dont wanna scroll through that other post lol:
During a sunningrocks skirmish, Sloefur, deputy of RiverClan, attacks Spottedpelt. Kestrelwing, a medicine cat with no training, rushes in to try and save her. However, Sloefur mistakes him for a warrior (due to his enormous stature. he looks a LOT like oakstar/Oakstrike, who was ThunderClan's deputy at the time), and attacks him, accidentally killing him. Kestrelwing and Spottepelt both die from the wounds inflicted by Sloefur. This prompts Birchstar to demote Sloefur to an elder and replace her with Darkfrost, who just recently finished training Reedshine.
Aww, does Gorseclaw die right when his son is born? That’s sad… what’s his deal if he has one?
Yep, sadly he is only around for about 2 moons when Thrushkit (Thrushtalon) is born.
I think much like his sister Spottedpelt, Gorseclaw never felt like he belonged in ThunderClan. The two of them were only a quarter-moon old when their birth clan was driven from the forest, and Birdflight was killed in an "accident" when they were less than a moon old. So, they had no idea they were from a different clan, and they never really knew either of their biological parents.
I imagine their adoptive mother within TC also seemed strangely distant from them. They never truly felt like they fit in.
I see Gorseclaw as being a bit quieter than his sister. He never really made any friends, while Spottedpelt was more friendly and outgoing. But neither of them were super ingrained into the clan dynamic. I think Gorseclaw would have gotten with the first she-cat who showed interest in him, simply out of a desire to belong and prove he could be "of use" to the clan.
Of course, the leadership still held contempt for him and his sister. He got all the worst jobs, all the most dangerous patrols, and he could just... never put a claw on why. His life was one of isolation, dissatisfaction, and a constant wondering of "why" everything had to be the way it was. He was probably a bit more pensive and morose, while his sister tried her best to look on the bright side.
...imagine both their surprise, when they're denied access to StarClan, and instead are led to SkyClan's ancestral hunting grounds, being told their whole lives were a lie.
It was especially hard for Gorseclaw because he at least wanted the opportunity to watch over his son, if he couldn't be there in life. He was not given that privileged.
