you pretty much nailed them here! both spotfur and stemleaf have complicated feelings towards each other and struggle to differentiate between platonic and romantic love. they have been incredibly crucial to each others lives since they were kids; spotfur struggles with making bonds outside of him ever since her littermates left, and stemleaf (in my mind canon) is a people-person but doesnt have any siblings of his own and can honestly come off as a little pretentious when you get to know him. he tells spotfur frequently that she is the only one who really gets him but deep down shes a little resenting of the fact that he can easily get along with anyone- at least thats how she feels when theyre younger.

spotpaw never finds herself looking forward to being with a tom, let alone getting crushes or anything of the like. i go back and forth on how aware she eventually becomes of her own sexuality- she is a pretty self-reflective and articulate person, especially in adulthood. id imagine she at least knows that she doesnt like men after TBC... or at least no man except for stemleaf. i will say that in a better world, spotfur would be able to identify that she was a lesbian and, in fact, not in love with her best friend in the traditional romantic sense. like you said, its complicated! im sure i dont need to explain to yall the in-an-outs of being a repressed lesbian in a heteronormative world... thats warrior cats 101 here on the spotfurfan tumblr blog.

as ive said before, they get together because there is simply nobody else (in spotfurs sheltered mind) who she would rather spend her life with. he really does make her happy. as long as she shoves down her own feelings a bit. i care less about stemleafs own messy relationship with things but its not totally clear-cut for him either, ive mentioned before that spotfur is also probably the only person he can imagine being with. he is a man with a girl best friend at the end of the day. and he is not gay!! i do think he is attracted to her in a way that she is not to him.

btw I always loveee seeing ur Warriors designs and seeing ur artstyle change over time I am going to eat! all of your artstyle yummy yummy :3
