Ive noticed that there seems to be a surge of younger attendees for a while then they lose interest or move on and its back to the old faithfuls if i can call them that π

Imo the new popularity stems from SPN cons outside the US who achieve to get at least on of the J's or even both together. That's why European cons sell out so fast when there's a high possibility that Jared or/and Jensen will attend. See Purgatory con (not the Halloween edition, that one is for the extras), Darklight con or the Monopoly events cons in the UK.
European SPN fans were pretty starved, yes there's Jib but not everyone can afford to travel to Italy. So the German and French fans finally got lucky to get their "own" SPN cons.
CE cons aren't always sold out, it's ~ 90:10 not being sold out. The last one was pretty crowded bc it finally had J2 after 6 months, so it sold well.
Ive never been to a convention so im interested to know this . When the videos of cons are put on , the average age of the audience seems late to middle age , would i be correct in that ? What are the average audience members of the cons ?
I've only been to one con in Germany and PurCon is really big and I'd say the age spun from ~20 to ~50 years and it was mixed very well.
The average age is higher at CE cons in the US, I guess from there your observations stems from.
Maybe some con regulars (which attended cons outside US) are of more help

What is the difference between the main panel and the gold panel?
The J2 Gold panel is only for Gold ticket holders, 30 minutes long and is the opening panel on Sunday "morning". And the people in the audience who want to ask a question, hold up a hand and Jared and Jensen switch picking who they choose to ask a question.
The main panel in the afternoon is for all tickets, lasts 1 hour and there's a "lottery" before, where Creation picks a list of names (the list is shown on the big screens besides the stage and contains ~ 30? names) and people who are on it line up left and right of the stage in the order their names are on the list. And J2 switch between the stage sides which means one from the left gets to ask, then one from the right etc. Of course only the first few in line have a very good chance to ask a question.
And then there's "the last question". It's happening a few minutes before the main panel's time is up, the band plays "The last question song" while Jared goes to pick up the lucky fan in line and accompany them to the stage where they're seated and get to ask their question.

How long have they been doing the cons now ? Not since the begining of the show but what about 10 years ?
If I remember fandom lore correctly, they started doing cons roundabout 2006? Where are the fandom dinosaurs which know best?
