Tour de Fleece 2023
Spun on wheels and spindles, plied some and started knitting this summer, everywhere I went.
Can I Replicate This Luxury Merino And Silk Yarn?
Recent spinning.
More Knitting!
Seriously knitting and spinning green. Finished a lilac cap in good time to start a green and white one. Started another green prayer shawl, mixed with yellow this time. Found a bit of green fluff to spindle.

I am terrible at sharing my progress as a spinner and the projects I’m working on. What I want to share if just one of the projects I’ve documented from start to almost finished. I started off with two 8-oz braids of merino from @wonderlandyarns. And I did nothing with those braids for at least three months. They were too perfect. The colors were too beautiful. I could never spin them evenly or make yarn as thins and beautiful as the yarns I saw other spinner spinning. But while those two braids of fiber haunted the space under my desk, I kept spinning. I used other fibers. I did a spinning advent calendar. I bought cheap fiber and tested using it on my wheel within starting with a spindle. I made yarn I liked and yarn I’d rather forget about. Then finally after the turn of the year, I turned to those two braids and gave them a shot. The spindles could spin fairly consistent singles, but it would take forever for me to get through a pound of fiber. I got an espinner from @dreaming_robots and began to spin singles, but they were far from the even, narrow ones I had as my original goal. They were also over twisted in spots. But there is a magic when the thread is plied and suddenly the extra twists soften and the mess becomes a feature. Some might even say it’s a fingerprint to show it’s handmade. It’s ok to take time and set aside something you feel intimidated to do. Just make sure you do pick it up if it’s something you still want. It may not come out perfectly, but it will still be an accomplishment and a mark of how far you’ve come. #positivethoughts #yarn #handmadeyarn #spinningyarn #wip https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-k4o-Otn6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Final post for 2022 Tour de Fleece This is churro I dyed and spun on my Saxony wheel.
Still plugging away on my cross stitch piece, but since the pattern is on the computer I need to look at something else for a while. So I’m popping in to the Tour de Fleece for a week or so. Mostly because this is the end of my gray fiber and I don’t want to just spin white, so I’m waiting to get another color to combine with my white. All of this is from last night/this morning. I’ve got about 1 more single’s worth left to spin before I finish plying everything, but since I only have 2 spindles and 2 bobbins I have started plying as I go. [Image Description: A DIY lazy kate made from a cardboard box and two thin dowels sits on the floor with gray yarn singles on each of the two cardboard bobbins and two spindles set inside the box, the left with another single and the right with the resulting chain-plied yarn.] #TourDeFleece #TourDeFleece2022 #DropSpindle #SpinningYarn #FiberArts #FiberArtist https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf42pRFvFGb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
