I'm watching Hornblower for the first time and it's so funny to me. I had Horatio Hornblower in my mind as this cool, charismatic, action hero type of guy, like Kirk from Star Trek or like Jim from The Wild Wild West. But here he is, unsure of himself, stuttering over his test answers, motivated by duty until spite takes over. People snort when he introduces himself. His men can't socialise with him but they know he'll take a bullet for any of them. He's a master at navigation. He hates the French. He can't decide whether he wants his captain to be his worst enemy or his dad. I love him so much
