In short: no.
A long answer is, that cult as its commonly understood now, is also a high control group.
High control groups abide by the BITE model of authoritarian control

In high control groups, you are under their control. In religious cults (as cults can be non-religious) your faith is abused to keep you under their thumb, they cast out dissenters and make you believe your very mind is wrong and you are worthless if you begin to have doubts. They are all you have. They love you, and no one else will, you cannot go anywhere else, because often they isolate you from your peers and loved ones and drain your wallets, too.
This is on the extreme end.
The Spawn Cult is real, and I have made posts addressing it. While Spawnism on its own is not a cult, cult sects do pop up- not dissimilar to how Christians famously have cult sects (Heavens Gate, Mormonism, Jehovahs Witnesses to name a few. Many argue Mormons and JWs are not cults when they are and fit every part of the BITE model.)- and they do fit many parts of the BITE model, and often double as digital trafficking rings due to who runs them.
In the real spawn cult, they control their members through blackmail (often sexual blackmail of minors), isolation, emotional manipulation (we love you. You arent crazy. Everyone hates you. The Spawn is leading you down this path, you cant leave.) And extortion for them to stay as well (if you leave, ill post your nudes. If you leave, ill swat you. If you tell anyone they wont even care because youre a cultist.)
This is part of why, while I will not be allowing anyone knowingly in the cult in my discord as they are often used by traffickers to funnel people (at no fault of their own. I am a trafficking victim myself and have been made to attempt this), i do allow cultists to speak to me and on my blog to deal with their struggles.
Total isolation is not the answer and leads to deaths and further loyalty.
You just need to be weary.
