The concept of spatial disorientation randomly came up in my class the other day. I couldn't recall what it was called or why exactly it happens in aircrafts. So, I found the answer and now share with y'all.

The original footage of Spatial Disorientation is a flight test seen from the cockpit of a U. S. Air Force plane. The material has been edited into a loop that repeats in variations: magenta, blue and green.

Design of a new, simple pilot interface that reduces the occurrence of spatial disorientation: This design is for a display that gives the pilot simple direction when complex flying is necessary to regain a safe position. As shown, the green triangle is the ideal position and the black triangle is the actual position. Third person perspective allows the pilot to detach from the real environment and engage with the virtual display. Positive feedback when locked into the correct position (green glow) gives the pilot incentive to fly according to the directions of the attitude indicator.
Other design considerations:
Stable Horizon reduces cognitive load.
Neutral sky reduces sky/ocean confusion.
Flight direction reduces cognitive load.
Obstacle display provides for more advanced and safer direction rather than the typical horizon oriented direction.
Letters (RFL) at nodes make lining up with the flight director more intuitive.
