Sparda Posting Hours
Oooooh I want to talk about Sparda for a bit so feel free to add your own headcanons or correct me if I say anything that goes against canon.
I think Sparda is a very fascinating figure in DMC, not only because he is the foundation but because it is only said once in the games that he died. Whether you think he died or not, because Capcom was planning on doing a Sparda game later so they began doing a bit of retcon, is not the point.
My point is if he did die, how did he die? His death wasn't the spark that fueled the boys life paths which I find fascinating. To me this says that he died either off screen to demons and Eva kept that from the boys, or he died from natural causes. For me it seems more likely he died off screen and Eva was the only one who knew at first. Maybe his body disintegrated in her arms one night as he came home bloody and weak. Or even, she just got a phone call from a local demon hunter who needed help that Sparda didn't make it.
I don't think there is a wrong answer to this other than being killed by demons in front of his children (that's Eva's schtick). If you had to write Sparda's death how would you do it? Hell if you think he only disappeared what was he doing all this time? I just want to know everyone's headcanons on the last days of Sparda before he disappears from the twins lives. And of course if you have any random Sparda headcanons please add I won't complain.
Thinking about how I spent hours beating dmc 1 on hardcore just so I could play as Sparta
this pride i bring you... a straight couple?? they're bi, trust 🙏
I am seeing from people who hate the netflix version of dmc going sparda is a r word in the show and like is their any difference between what he did in the game and the show, I mean they even show the tower from 3 in season 2 or are these people just trusting mundus version of events
there are a few differences between dmcn and the games in terms of the mechanics of how the worlds work. in the games, sparda sealed off several gates to hell (the temen-ni-gru, the hell gate in fortuna) rather than using his own sword to erect a "wall" like how dmcn presents it, but in terms of functionality it's basically the same thing. the only major change to sparda's character is the fact he wasn't there for the twins at all and didn't seem to pass off rebellion and yamato (?) to them? which I have mixed feelings about but anyways,
it's more accurate to say a lot of the context and worldbuilding has been altered rather than sparda himself. we definitely get a lot more input about how other characters feel about him (particularly wrabbit and now mundus in s2) that paint him more in a negative light to the audience and goes unchallenged within the narrative. I somewhat understand why people are miffed by this but at the same time when they act like sparda is this super well established character in the games I'm just??? no he isn't??? there's almost no information about him at all, and for that matter the dmc games have some of the most barebones worldbuilding ever. the scope of dmc is very narrow, and dmcn expands it for better or worse.
so at this point I'm just like whatever. I don't think it's some cardinal sin for dmcn to try and do something new or provide more nuance or perspective to sparda's actions, even in a negative light. this weird kpop stan mentality fandom has adopted where a story trying something different/not validating peoples preconceived notions is seen as "slandering my goats" is so profoundly uninteresting to me and i think people need to grow up lol

Here is a reminder that in DMC canon, enough portals and spontaneous passages exist for any low-level demon (who are still above most humans) to pass through if they truly want to leave the demon world. So no one was stuck over there aside from the uber powerful demons.
Dante escapes hell after dmc2 through these portals for example. Likes of Cid, Modeus, Baul etc leave hell that way too. Yes, the portals were rare but they do exist nonetheless.
Sparda never held a grudge or hated his kind. He left the gates tact for that reason. This is an insane emotional feat for the guy who couldn't even feel humanity or humane emotions before this.
We can accuse Sparda of naivety and overgenerosity. However we can never call him cruel or unfair. He did for the demons more than they deserved.
I need more wholesome Sparda fics in my life
