With the comedy aspect it could’ve easily fallen into the traps of modern movie comedy where the jokes and ”self awareness” undermine the story and the gravity of the happenings, but it didn’t. The comedy knew its place and didn’t take away from the sincerity. Instead it landed well and gave us those bright moments that allow the audience to connect with the characters even more and which contrast and heighten the more tense suspense of other scenes beautifully.

The visual effects were just stunning! Masterful! And learning that so much of it was practical makes me so incredibly happy and even more in love with the look and feel of this movie.

They did such a great job at making the science talk accessible for audiences without dumbing it down, it was so engaging and interesting and reinforced my love for everything astronomy and science and reminded me of all the wonder it makes me feel.

And the heart of the movie, Grace and Rocky’s relationship, was just everything! The universal urge, instinct, desire to connect and communicate, to understand, it’s something so beautiful. Their bond was so genuine, so real and tangible. They both found just what they needed in each other, hope, company, purpose. They bonded on such a deep level and it’s just, so beautiful 🥹

Characters with roles similar to Rocky are so often given subpar character writing, but not Rocky!! Rocky is so incredibly charmingly endearing, such a personality, and such a sweetie pie. Rocky is just so, so endearing, so genuine and so full of life!

Never in my life have two characters felt so REAL, like to me Grace and Rocky really, really exist. Those two exist in our reality and there’s no doubt about it. I love them so much 🥹 It’s to the point where I’ve even been hesitant to watch the behind the scenes of the movie, I can’t bear to see Rocky as a puppet (yet I am so incredibly impressed by the creation of it all and need to see more!!)

PHM was genuinely the best cinema experience I’ve ever had! I laughed a lot while watching this movie, I smiled even more, and I cried multiple times, as did the rest of the audience (Rocky telling his backstory, the Rocky fix scene and the second time they ”danced” in the tunnel especially got me), and overall this movie just made me *feel* so much, it gave me the most wonderful feeling and experience and so much to think about. It’s been taking up so much space in my brain that I can see contrails in the sky, I think of the Hail Mary. I see a brown rock or anything even slightly resembling a spider/crab, I think of Rocky. 🥹
