Cairis was startled, but not badly so, when Sozal caught hold of her.
He'd come out of a terrible sleep; gasped awake and slung himself upright, searching instinctively for a way out of his nightmare. Ā He'd stared at her, unseeing for a moment - still lost in the bad dream.
When his vision had cleared and focused on her, the horror had remained and he'd caught her up in a tight hug against him.
In an instant, she knew that he'd dreamed something horrible involving her.
She hugged him until the shaking stopped and then coaxed him to lie down again. Ā She shifted them until his head was pillowed on her chest; the two of them twined around each other.
And then, while she stroked his head, she sang softly:
"Kyriv daekyl Kyriv daekyl
Ae ver yest Fina ea'i zekura Ae ver yest Fina ea'i amatta Yiea mi'vor'batato Dist'vel batov fina
Ae critaq fina miloj Ae gardu'fi Lei finav ripovo Dist'ae fina tekivo Fina ea'i zekura mi'amat
Kyriv daekyl Kyriv daekyl
Mi'vushla"
