Summary: Jughead & Y/n are best friends and are always together. The bulldogs like to make fun of them for it. One day Toni, Fangs, and Sweetpea see it and get pissed. They want to know why Y/n and Jug just let it happen.
Authors Note: Just a small one shot for Jughead Jones
âAwww if it isnât loser one and loser two.â Chuck said smirking as they approached the group of young Serpents in the Popâs dinner booth.
âJust leave us alone.â Jughead grumbled getting annoyed faster than usual.
âNo, I donât think we will. Your both pathic and we need t make sure neither of you forget it.â Reggie crossed his arms standing next to chuck.
Y/n rolled her eyes. âGet some new material Mantle.â
âI think you need to learn a lesson-â Chuck stepped forward in a threatening manner.
âDo we have a problem here?â Tonu cut in having had enough of watching the scene before her.
âNone of you business snakes.â Reggie sneered
âYour messing with our own. That makes it our business.â Fangs ut in. Along with Toni he was done watching.
âOh, yeah, and what are you gonna do about it?â Chuck challenged.
âYeah. Just slither away back to the holes you came out of.â Reggie scoffed
âYou donât want to know what Iâd like to do about it.â Sweetpea growled from his side of the booth squaring his shoulders.
âJust leave us alone. You donât own Popâs. We can be here.â Y/n narrowed her eyes, hoping to make them disappear.
âWeâre allowed to be here.â Jughead stated backing up Y/nâs statement.
âIf thereâs a problem here Mr. Mantle, Mr. Clayton I have no problem calling your folks down here to settle it.â Pop said defending his best late night customers Jughead and Y/n.
âThereâs no problem.â Reggie grumbles as him and Chuck head out of the dinner.
âThanks, Pop.â Y/n smiled gratefully at the old man.
âYour welcome, Hunny. Iâll get you all some frys.â Pop said smiling before leaving to the kitchen.
âThanks Pop.â Jughead called out to him.
âWhy donât ou guys do anything about that?â Toni asked still pissed about how her friends were treated.
âThier assholes.â Y/n shrugged.
âExactly.â FIngs agreed
âThey wouldnât stop even if we did do something about it.â Jughead told their friends across the table.
âBut you both just sit there and take it.â Sweetpea furrowed his eyebrows not understanding why they just take it.
âTheyâve always done it. Weâre from the southside, loners, I could go on. They do it to get at us. It bothers them that weâre from the wrong side of the tracks as they say and that weâre never really apart.â Y/n explained to them while sipping on her milkshake.
Jughead nodded, theyâve been dealing with this forever. âThereâs no point they wonât stop and weâre not going to change.â
âPlus it pisses them off that we donât care.â Y/n smirked reaching to grab a fry and take a bite.
âI guess your right.â Toni sighed sadly knowing that they were right. Nothing would change the assholeâs behavior.Â
âWell if you both ever change your minds weâll gladly beat their asses.â Sweetpea smirked also grabbing a fry. Any reason to beat up the bulldogs or Northsiders theyâd take it.

A/N: the prompt was âI stole your seat and in retaliation you sat on meâ (again, not sure who posted it. If you know please tell me!) But it got a little...intense. Which was an accident, it just happened. Maybe Iâll do a part two if anyone wants one. Feedback is aways appreciated!

The noise of the bar rushed to meet your ears the moment you opened the door of the Whyte Wyrm. A group of Ghoulies had recently been rounded up and jailed for selling drugs. Needless to say, the Serpents were celebrating, which meant extra noise and an extra crowded bar.
You maneuvered past several older members playing pool, trying not to trip over your own boots in the dim lighting. Scanning the bar, you found no sign of Toni, which meant she must have the night off. You pressed through the crowd, ordered a drink, then headed back to the back corner of the bar. In typical teenage fashion, your group had claimed the table furthest from everyone else.
Your steps faltered as you noticed an extra person at your table. Jughead Jones, who normally couldnât be bothered to come down to the bar, was sitting in Sweet Peaâs seat. Which meant Sweet Pea was in your seat.
You stopped in front of the table and cocked your head at him, an annoyed look etched on your face. Toni sent you a nod as Fangs waved, while Jughead and Sweet Pea were still engaged in conversation.
âSweets, youâre in my seat.â You raised a brow as the Serpent boy finally looked at you. You smirked internally when his mouth fell open and his eyes traveled your body. You silently thanked Toni for making you buy the leather skirt you were currently wearing, which youâd paired with a band tee and fishnet tights. You had to admit, you looked good. Apparently Sweet Pea thought so too.
He blinked a few times before closing his mouth and smirking up at you.
âSorry princess, Jughead joined us. Pull up another seat.â You watched Toni and Fangs share a look out of the corner of your eye. You and Sweet Pea had always flirted with one another, but neither of you had ever gone beyond that. You had a playful relationship, but you were also good friends, and neither one wanted to ruin that. Tonight, however, that thought wasnât lingering in the back of your mind.
You let out an amused laugh, reaching past Sweets to set your drink down on the table; close enough fo him to smell your perfume.
âSee Sweets, thatâs my seat,â you said, putting an emphasis on the word âmyâ. âIt wasnât very nice of you to take it.â
He offered you another lazy smirk, brushing his hair dark away from his face.
âLike I said, sorry princess. Deal with it.â He returned to his drink as you gave him an unimpressed look.
âFine,â You said. He quirked a brow as he leaned back.
âWhatâs that supposed to-â
His sentence was cut short as you slid yourself over him an sat down on his lap, facing the table. You picked up your drink, taking a sip to hide your smirk when Peaâs hands immediately went to your hips. You ignored Jugheads shocked look, and Fangs impressed but terrified one, instead starting up a conversation with Toni, who seemed very amused by the whole situation.
After a while the conversation started to flow, everyone except Sweet Pea talking. Jughead was telling a story, so you leaned back against Sweet Peas chest and crossed your arms.
âComfortable?â Sweet Pea asked, a hint of sarcasm entering his voice.
âVery.â You smirked.
âWhyâd you sit on me?â
âRetaliation.â
He grunted softly as one of his warm hands left your hip and reached for his drink. After he set it down again, you caught his wrist before his hand settled on your hip, instead playing with the intricate rings on his fingers. You stayed like that for a while until the other three got up to get another round of drinks.
âWhatcha doinâ princess?â He asked after a moment. You paused midway through lacing your fingers together.
âYour hands are so big compared to mine,â you said, and Sweet Pea nearly laughed at the wonder in your voice.
âIâd bet Iâve got a few things bigger than you. Wait-!â
You started to giggle uncontrollably, dropping Peaâs hand from yours.
âWait, that didnât come out right!â You could hear the embarrassment in his voice and you were sure he was blushing.
âNo kidding,â you managed between laughs. Sweet Pea groaned, dropping his head against your shoulder. You jumped at the feeing of his hair tickling your neck, another giggle escaping your lips.
He sat up slowly with a grin on his face.
âY/n L/n, are you ticklish?â He asked mischievously. Panic shot through you.
âHaha, no. Why would you think that?â You said innocently, playing with the empty glass on the table in front of you. You couldnât see the evil grin that stretched across Sweet Peaâs face as his fingers snuck up from your hips and began to attack your sides.
âPea! No, stop!â You gasped, arching away from his fingers. âStop! Stop stop, Sweet Pea please! Pea please! Stop!â You couldnât stop the laughter that spilled from your lips as his fingers continued to dig into your sides. Sweet Pea, on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear. His joy was short lived, however. All of your squirming around on his lap had gotten him a little...excited. He held back a groan as his pants began to get tighter. You repeating his name over and over wasnât helping much, either.
He grabbed your hips and pushed you to you feet just as Fangs, Toni and Jughead returned with drinks. Toni gave you a confused look, which you returned as Sweet Pea practically jumped to his feet and dragged you toward the front door.
The cold air was a nice contrast to the warm atmosphere of the bar, but you didnât have time to enjoy it as Sweet Pea pulled you around the side of the building. Your back hit the wall and Sweet Peaâs hands were suddenly next to your shoulders, trapping you between him and the side of the bar. For a second you thought he was angry with you until you glanced down and saw the tent in his pants.
You looked back up at him with a smirk.
âOops. Did I do that?â You said with fake innocence. He let out a growl.
âYou think youâre so fucking funny, donât you princess? Teasin me, sitting in on my lap, that fucking skirt-â
Your breath hitched as he stood up straighter and pressed his chest against yours, hands dropping to grip your hips. You could feel him hard against your hip as he pressed himself closer to you. You teasingly ran your hands up his chest, looping your arms around his neck as you leaned into him.
âYou gonna do something about it Sweets?â You whispered in his ear, fingers twirling the hair at the base of his neck.
He growled again as he pulled your hips tighter against him. His lips twisted into a smirk when you let out a soft gasp.
âIâm gonna take you home and make you feel so good that you canât walk tomorrow. By the time Iâm done, babygirl, the whole Southside is gonna know my name.â
A moan escaped your lips as Sweet Peas head dipped down to press surprisingly gentle kisses along your jaw and down to your neck. All too soon he pulled away, and you whined at the loss of contact. He smirked again as he stepped back.
âBut thatâs all up to you sweetheart. Iâll be on my bike in five.â
He walked away, leaving you leaning against the side of the bar panting.

"You got lock out again?" Pea asks leaning against the door frame.
The small blonde nods. Sheâs sat on his trailer steps. She is half sheltered in the dark, but her soft features, her slightly up turned nose and green eyes are illuminated by the tired porch light.
"Come on." He gestures her in then closes the door. "You hungry?"
"Starving."
"Well then lucky for you I just order pizza."
"You just ordered pizza? It like one in the morning." She settles down on the sofa.
"Was on a job." Pea joins her passing her a can.
"Thanks."
"So why are you back so late?"
"I was at Ronnieâs. Didn't realise the time, then when I got-"
"Yeah, I know the drill." He nods. If she's back even a minute past her curfew, the doors already bolted shut.
------
They finish up the pizza and Pea clears the box away. They don't talk much when Ally comes looking for shelter after being locked out. It's almost like she's a different person. She quiet, reserved, sad. Not like during the day, she's normally the first one to crack a joke, to make everyone laugh even when there doesn't seem much to laugh about. She smiles and is kind to everyone and pretty much everyone returns it - with a few exceptions, being her sister and the Ghoulies. Although, she's even managed to charm a few of them in the past, mainly to get him out of tricky situations. She makes even the darkness days brighter. But that's not her right now. Right now she is the dark. And Pea loves that she turns to him for help. He loves her. All of her. When she's at her best and at her worst. She's there for him and everyone whenever they need someone to talk to or just listen. Sometimes she gives her light to others, she doesn't have enough for herself. And Pea is happy to share his light with the girl he's loved since he was twelve. Since the first time she smiled, the first time she spoke. Since the first time she showed him life wasn't so bleak and trying as he once though.
"You know where your draw is," he says. She nods removing her Serpent jacket and resting it on the chair, before slipping away to the bedroom.
He thought it was only logical to give her own draw. Since her staying at his became almost daily, with a few near exceptions. It has all she needs, spare pair of jeans, a few t-shirts, underwear - always seemed wrong her having to go to school, not only tired, but in dirty clothes - and of course sleep wear. As much as he found it cute when she wondered in wearing his shirt that basically drowned her little frame, he could see how uncomfortable she was. He knew her home didn't offer her security and comfort so he wanted to provide some for her in the little trailer he calls home.
------
"All set?" He knocks on the closed bedroom door.
"Yeah." Her small voice only just manages to pierce through the thin door.
He gingerly walks in the see her sat up on the left side of the bed with the covers almost all covering her body. Her face is clean and her hair brushed and tucked behind her ears. Just like always. She smiles as he walks over to the bed. She makes a point to look in the other direction as he removes his clothes and pulls on some pyjama pants and slips into bed. Not quite beside her. They are of coursed blocked by a pillow wall. The first few times she stayed. Pea slept on the couch. But Ally felt so guilty to push him out of his own bed and thought of the pillow wall solution. And it stuck.
She lowers herself down and rests her head on the pillow.
"Goodnight," she whispers.
"Night, Al." He switches of the light. She stares into the dark. Her eye lids are heavy, but she has no chance of sleeping. She never sleeps, she pretends and piles the make up on to hid the circles under her eyes. She doesnât want to be a bother, she never wants to worry anyone, sheâs not worth the worry. So she keeps quiet and keeps going in hope itâll all get better one day.
------
She looks to the clock on the bedside table. She sighs realising that there are only fours until she has to be up for school. She looks to Pea, her best friend, her childhood friend. The one she has always turned to for help, the one she knows will always be there for her. She watches his chest go up and down. His shallow snores make me feel safe. Heâs always so peaceful, content. He will never know how much he means to her because she will never tell him. The thought of exposing him to the mess she calls a life behind the locked trailer door seems more cruel than keeping her feelings a secret. So she will remain quiet until, maybe, one day she is free from it all and she will confess everything.

This is for @riverdale-eventsâs Camp Riverdale Session Two Theme 4: Fake Dating with a smidge of Theme 1: Soulmates
Word Count: 7k words
Warnings: bad writing, a curse word or two, kissing, a mention of sex, some angstÂ
Summary:Â Sweet Pea needed a date to a wedding. You needed to get an invite to said wedding. 1 craigslist ad and several people to fool. Could you two pull it off?
A/n: This took forever so please let me know how I did. I kind of want to do a part two so if that is something you want stop by my asks or shoot me a message. Also, this got away from me, it started off as a 500 word drabble but somehow we made it here
Masterlist in Bio
Sweet Pea was desperate. He needed a date, like yesterday. Josie was getting married tomorrow and invited all her high school friends from Riverdale. Him included. Even though he was fairly sure he was long over her, he feared going alone.Â
Thatâs pathetic right? Showing up to an exâs wedding alone? It just screams âIâm still not over youâ with a slight chance of âIâll ruin your weddingâ. Not the vibe he wanted to emit.Â
Plus he had already RSVPâd for two. He couldnât not show up with a date. That would only add to the humiliation.Â
Something else that is pathetic is desperately trying to score an invitation to said wedding. You dated the groom in college, and you were sure he was your soulmate. You werenât delusional with ideas that if he saw you there, he would drop his fiancĂŠ for you. No, of course not. All you wanted was to see for yourself that the woman he was to wed was good enough for him, that she made him happy. Who could blame you right? You were just looking out for your so-called soulmate.
You tried to see if anyone you knew was going but unfortunately you were shit out of luck. You two just didnât have any mutual friends anymore.Â
You tossed and turned in bed unable to sleep until you hear a notification ping coming from your cell phone.
It was an email from an unknown address with the subject It must be your lucky day. That was odd, you thought. You opened it anyway and the only thing in the body of the email was a single link to a Craigslist ad.
You debated opening it. What if it was a virus? Your thumb hovered over the link for a few minutes before you finally decided to take the plunge and click the link.
Not a virus. Not a virus at all. Instead it was what you were desperately praying for. An ad for a date to a wedding. The wedding you needed an invite for. Bless whoever sent you this link. This was your last chance considering the wedding was tomorrow.
You quickly sent a response asking if he still needed a date for the wedding. You really hoped whoever this was would see your message in time.Â
Sweet Pea was having trouble sleeping as well. His stomach was full of dread that he even started creating different scenarios in his head to try and get out of going. Maybe he could fake being sick? No, everyone will see right through that and know something was up.Â
Maybe he could jump in front of a car. That would cause him to go to the hospital and give him a proper excuse, right? But then he thought about how painful that would be and not to mention expensive. So thatâs a no.Â
Thatâs when his phone dinged. It was an email. Someone responded to his wedding date ad. Even a week after he posted it, it had gotten him zero responses. He later added that he was willing to pay someone to go if they could pose as a convincing date. Emphasis on the convincing part.Â
He didnât want to take just any lunatic but at this point he was so desperate and this was the only response he had gotten. He guessed something was better than nothing.
He wrote back that he was still indeed in need of a date. He made sure to ask if you had any concerns since the whole situation was not ideal. A few minutes later, he received your response. Â
The email contained all your information plus a photo of you and what you are willing and not willing to do for this date. He smiled as he looked over your photo and wondered for a second if he was being catfished. You didnât look crazy. You looked normal, beautiful even. He wondered why you answered his ad in the first place. Did you need the money? He could think of no other logical explanation, but he was sure you had your reasons.
He accepted your terms and sent you a designated meet up time and place he would be picking you up from. Sweet Pea wanted to meet you first to get a feeling of what to expect from this strange transaction.
You were nervous. Of course you were. You were meeting a total stranger to be his date. You didnât know what to expect. He could be a total psycho for all you knew. Which is why you carried your pepper spray and taser in your small bag. You can never be too careful.
As you waited for him to arrive, you felt greatly out of place in the coffee shop. It was currently filled with a group of students, presumably studying, wearing very casual clothing. You with your hair styled, make-up done while wearing a dress and heels, stuck out like a sore thumb which only added to your anxiousness.Â
Another reason you were nervous is due to the fact that you have no idea what this guy even looks like. You sent him a picture of yourself so he should be able to find you easily. You scold yourself for not asking him for a picture. It doesnât really matter to you what he looks like, but it would have put your mind more at ease knowing who to look out for.Â
When Sweet Pea entered the coffee shop, he was instantly able to pick you apart from the rest of the patrons. You were even more beautiful in person. There was this glow about you, almost ethereal. He couldnât help but feel a small bubbling in his stomach. He blamed his nervousness.Â
You were on your phone scrolling aimlessly when you hear an unsure voice call your name. You turn to find an incredibly handsome man wearing a powder blue dress shirt. You took in his appearance and instantly noticed how tall he is. You notice a tattoo peeking out from under his collared shirt, the first two buttons are undone, and his sleeves are rolled up to his elbows exposing the veins on his forearms. He has a strong muscular build. His clothes hugging him perfectly making him absolutely drool worthy.Â
You could also see the way his eyes were completely fixed on yours. It felt as if he could see right into your soul. His eyebrows suddenly rose in uncertainty.Â
You had been staring at him in awe for a while that you donât register him talking. âIâm sorry, what?â
âI asked if you were okay with that?â
âYeahâ you say a little breathless. You had no idea what you were agreeing to but you just went along with it and hoped for the best as he led you to his car.Â
Before getting in you said, âI hope this dress is okay.âÂ
To which he replied with, âYou're perfect.â You raised your eyebrows and laughed. âI mean, it's perfect.â You didnât say anything but smiled to yourself as you got in.Â
As he drove you to the wedding venue, things were pretty quiet. Not so much awkward, but dull silence. You thought maybe you should get to know more about him. For one, you were dying to know what such a beautiful man was doing posting an ad to get a wedding date? He was gorgeous. Surely he could have taken anyone he wanted but here you were hired to accompany him.Â
âYouâre staringâ he mumbles, keeping his eyes on the road.Â
âIâm curious is allâ you reply still looking at him.Â
He huffs out a laugh, âOk Iâll bite. What pray tell has you so curious?â
You paused for a second unsure if you should even ask. He didnât owe you any sort of explanation. You were there for one reason and one reason only. Everything else was just background noise.Â
Sweet Pea finally turned and looked in your direction worried about the sudden silence on your part. But you looked fine. A little deep in thought but fine nonetheless.Â
âIâm just wondering why someone like you has to pay for a date?âÂ
He tensed, squeezing the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white. You didnât notice. âSomeone like what?â he asked, managing to keep his tone neutral.Â
You laughed thinking it was blatantly obvious. âYou don't need me to tell you that you are an attractive man, itâll stroke your egoâ
He relaxed his hold on the steering wheel, turned to you and smirked. âMaybe it needs to be strokedâ
You felt your face heat up so you looked away. You hadnât anticipated that answer. After you recomposed yourself you asked, âIâm serious. I was obviously a last minute addition considering we agreed to this, what like twelve hours ago?â You look at him challengingly
He sighed giving in fairly quickly which surprised even him. âJosie, the bride. I had a fling with her in high school. Just didn't want to show up alone and make it weird.â
You furrowed your brows. âIf it was just a fling why does it matter? Itâs not like you were in love with her.â
Sweet Pea scrunched his face and groaned. You really did hit the head on the nail with that one.Â
âWait. Seriously?â This could potentially complicate things. Â
âI mean, I wouldnât say I was in love with her but I wanted more than she was willing to give me andâŚâ he couldn't finish his thought. They were old wounds that didnât need to be opened up. He was long over Josie.Â
After a second you tsked. âI know the feeling.âÂ
It seemed you and Sweet Pea actually had something in common. You were both attending an exâs wedding. Only he didn't know that and you didn't plan on telling him. Your reasoning for going was pretty pathetic while his was at least understandable.Â
âWhat about you?â he asked.Â
âHm?âÂ
âWhy answer my ad?â
âOh. Um⌠Iâm actually a struggling actress.â
He gives you a is that so look.
"I haven't been able to book many gigsâ you admit. âOr any at all. So I thought I could use the practice,â Sweet Pea nods in understanding, âand the money of course. A girlâs got rent to payâ you smile.Â
Sweet Pea believes you. He doesnât have a reason to doubt you and it kind of makes you feel bad for taking advantage of him. You didnât need the money and you would have done this for free anyway. That is how desperate and pathetic you felt.Â
âOpportunist I see.â He smirks.Â
âI have to be in my line of work.â Itâs true. Itâs a cutthroat world out there.Â
He parks the car and you both get out.
âReady?â he asks.Â
âI act for a living. The question is are you ready?â you ask because you can see sweat dot his forehead and he looks as if he might hurl.Â
He wipes away the sweat and takes a deep breath. âI think so.â More like he hopes so.Â
You thought it was kind of cute that he was nervous. It wasnât something you expected from him. âOk just remember to relax.â You place a hand on his arm. âIâm here to help you. Youâre not doing this alone.âÂ
You feel some of the tension leave his body as he relaxes under your touch. Itâs odd but Sweet Pea finds it easy to be with you, you pull him in close and you instruct him on how to make it all seem believable.Â
Most of the wedding guests are not people Sweet Pea knows. He only knows his fellow people from Riverdale. He doesnât know how theyâd react to you. As far as they knew he wasnât dating anyone.Â
Right before the entrance to the ceremony he stopped walking and you were left confused as to why he had stopped.Â
âSweet Pea?â you asked.
âI canât do this.â he said. âTheyâll all know this is fake. I didn't even come up with a cover story as to who you are. If my friends start askingâŚâ
You interrupt him before he could have a complete meltdown. âDonât worryâ you say rubbing his back. âIâm very good at improvising. We got thisâ you reassured. âJust follow my lead.â
He nods. âOk, I think I can do that. I have some acting experience under my belt as well. I was the lead in the Heathers Musical in high school. I can do this.â
You quirked an eyebrow. âWere you really?â you were impressed. This might just be easier than you originally thought.Â
He smiled a bit embarrassed at what he revealed. âYeah.â He feigned nonchalance.Â
You laugh. âIf this ends well. Iâm going to need to see pictures or else I won't believe you. Better yet, you can sing for me.â
That seemed to relax him again. âIt was a long time ago. Don't get ahead of yourself. First lets get through the ceremony, that's the easiest part. The reception is where the real challenge is.â He seemed more himself.Â
âThen let's get a move on,â you pull him towards the meadow where the other guests have already taken their seats.Â
You found your way to a pew on the bride's side despite not knowing her. The one you did know was the groom. But it would have been weird to sit on his side anyway, he didnât even know you were here.Â
Sweet Pea decided on staying a bit further back than his friends. He didnât think he could handle them bombarding him with questions just yet. He only just managed to keep his cool.Â
Even though he appeared better he hadnât let go of your hand. It was a bit warm and sweaty but you didnât mind. It actually felt quite nice.Â
It was almost time to start and thatâs when you saw him. You squeezed Sweet Peaâs hand when you did. If he thought it unusual, he didnât comment on it.Â
This was the first time youâd seen him in what seemed like forever. He looked just as handsome as the day you met only older and with a beard. He seemed on edge but not in a bad way.Â
The wedding took place in the evening, the sun was setting as the couple shared their first kiss as husband and wife. It was very beautiful, if only you could ignore the pang of jealousy that rests heavy on your heart.
The reception was held just down the way from where the ceremony took place. It too was outdoors with the darkening sky as the backdrop. The place was decorated with beautiful lights making the whole place look like a dream.Â
You walked in and took your seats. All seemed to be going well until Sweet Peaâs friends gathered at the table. He introduced you to his best friend Fangs, Toni and her girlfriend Cheryl. They all seemed nice but then they asked how the two of you met.
His immediate answer was, âat a partyâ while you said, âThrough a friendâ. You nervously look at each other but this only rose suspicion from his friend. Toni quirked an eyebrow waiting for you to continue. Cheryl looked bored and Fangs was oblivious.Â
Then he changed his answer to, âthrough a friendâ as you said, âat a party.â You mentally cursed yourself and Sweet Pea. He was supposed to follow your lead.Â
Toni smirked and her eyes gleamed, having seemed to have caught you two in the lie. âIs that so?â
You two looked at each other again and despite stumbling over your answers, it was obvious what the next words out of both of you were. âAt a party, through a friend.â
Toni didn't seem convinced but then before she could get another word in, Betty came and hugged you.Â
âIâm so glad you made itâ she said aloud. The added in your ear, âI was afraid Iâd sent you the ad too late.â So it was Betty who sent you the link.Â
Sweet Pea was beyond confused. What the hell did he get himself into? Maybe you really canât see crazy from just looking at someone. He was under the impression that you were only doing this for the money.Â
âBetty! Itâs been so long, how are you? I was just about to tell everyone how you introduced me and Sweet Pea at a party a couple years ago.âÂ
She gave you a questioning look but quickly caught on as she realized you had a pleading look on your face.Â
She shook her head as if clearing it. âRight, sorry it was so long ago I almost forgot.â
Sweet Pea was still quiet trying to process what was going on and Toni noticed.
âIs that how it happened Sweet Pea?â she asked as she stared him down. Oh no, you had a feeling she might actually be the one to crack him. You had managed to get this far, you werenât about to let it go to shit now.Â
Betty felt bad for having to leave but she didnât know your cover story. She didnât want to accidentally ruin it so she excused herself saying she needed to find Jughead.Â
His continued silence piqued the interest of Cheryl. âSweet Pea?âÂ
âHm? Oh. Yeah. That is how it happened, Toniâ he said slightly annoyed giving off the impression he was offended. âWe didnât get along at first andâŚâ
You interrupted him incase he said something you couldnât take back. âWe didnât stay in contact, obviouslyâ you looked to him to make sure he was getting on the same page as you. âBut we bumped into each other at a coffee shop a while backâ a while being a few short hours, âand seeing a familiar although annoying face was just what I needed.â
Sweet Pea thought back to how you looked when he first saw you. âYeah. She looked so sad,â he said without really thinking. Her beauty was obvious but now that he thought about it, you did look kinda sad.Â
You didnât know he had noticed that. Just before he had arrived you were thinking about how your soulmate was marrying someone else today. âI wouldnât say I was sadâ you paused. âMaybe a bit nervous?â you added.Â
âOh? Nervous for what?â asked Fangs finally piping into the conversation. Or slight interrogation since Toni was still seemed suspicious.
âA job interview, of sortsâ you said. Which wasnât technically a lie. You were set to meet up with Sweet Pea to see if you could pull off being his date.
âYou had that audition that day right?â Sweet Pea added. You both seemed to be getting better at this improvising together thing.Â
âYes.â You looked to him and gave him a reassuring smile letting him know he was doing really well.Â
âAudition?âÂ
âMmmhh, Iâm an actress.â
As soon as those words left your mouth, you knew you were going to regret them. Both Toni and Cheryl had that âgotchaâ face.
âI knew it! Sweet Pea did you hire this poor girl to be your date?â Toni tutted in disappointment.Â
Cheryl chimed in âThat really is low even for you Sweet Peaâ in a tone that sounded a bit condescending.Â
Meanwhile, Fangs was finally putting two and two together as he remembered about the ad.Â
You and Sweet Pea blanche. This was it, you had been caught. He thought he might as well come clean but then turned around those thoughts and tried a different tactic.Â
âYou got meâ he said as if he was admitting defeat after getting caught with his hand in the cookie jar.Â
You quickly picked up and said, âDamn. I swear I thought weâd be more convincing than this.â
âOh my god. So it's true? He really did hire you?â asked Toni.Â
Sweet Pea sighed but you continued. âYes. The truth is. We met only a few hours ago. He came in these incredibly tight clothesâ you lightly scratch down his chest, âand I just couldnât help myself. We had sex in his car.â
Sweet Pea blushed, Fangsâ jaw dropped, Toni was stunned, and Cheryl eyed you two but nodded. âThat explains the hair,â she was quick to point out. Of course she would think itâs sex hair. However, it was a bit of a mess due to Sweet Pea nervously running his hands through his hair all evening.Â
You bite your lip to suppress a laugh.Â
âAfterwards I asked her if she wanted to come to a wedding. We didnât have much time but we made it in time.â He smiles down at you, wraps his arm over your shoulder and pulled you close.Â
Fangs nods. Toni is still shocked. Cheryl looks over your dress, âAnd that explains the outfit.â You were baffled at her comment but kept your mouth shut.Â
Deciding that the game was over, you said, âSeriously though, why would Sweet Pea hire me? Do we not make a cute couple?â
Toni and Cheryl gave each other a guilty look but Fangs had a feeling he knew what you two were up to.Â
âSorry. Itâs just that weâve never heard anything about you and we knew this day might be hard for him. Our mistake.â They seemed embarrassed and quickly dismissed themselves.Â
After they walked off, it was just you and Sweet Pea again, he led you to the open bar with his hand on the small of your back as you two burst into fits of laughter. You cannot believe you actually pulled that off.Â
Once the laughter wore off his face grew serious. He leaned into you and whispered, âYou lied to me.â
You sigh, âI did.â You really didnât know what to say. He wasnât ever supposed to find out. You were supposed to be his convincing wedding date, see your ex and at the end of the night heâd pay you and youâd never see him again.Â
âWhy? I told you why I needed a date. But you lied to me. You told me you were a struggling actress.â He looked genuinely hurt about being lied to.
You scrunched your face and groaned. Sure, you felt bad but you couldnât take it back now. âTechnically that's not a lie.â
He shook his head and called for the bartender to order a drink. âI don't like liars.â
Maybe you should have just been upfront about it. Maybe he would have understood.
Suddenly, you look up from across the room and see him. All smiles. He seemed to be glowing in happiness and his bride was the same as everyone cheers for them.Â
He wondered why you had paused and followed your line of sight. At first Sweet Pea was curious as to why the bride and groom had gotten your attention. He looked at them. They looked unimaginably happy in their wedding bliss, it seemed as if they saw nobody else but each other.Â
As he watched them he couldnât help but feel a pang of jealousy. He wasnât pining over Josie anymore but he couldnât help but wonder why. Why couldnât she ever look at him the way she looked at her new husband. Would anyone ever look at him that way?
He looked back over to you. Your body tense, your face expressionless but your eyes held that same sadness he noticed at the coffee shop. He recognized it as pain. The pain was masked well, but not that well. Itâs the kind of pain you have when love isnât returned and even though you wish them nothing but happiness you canât help but feel as if your heart had just been stomped on.Â
Sweet Pea was slowly piecing it together. âHow exactly did you find my ad again?â
His question pulled you out of your thoughts. âHm? Oh, umm⌠I think Betty may have sent it to me.âÂ
He questions you, âAnd how do you know Betty?â
You tear your gaze off the bride and groom and look at Sweet Pea. âCollege. She was my roommate freshman year.â
The bartender brings over your drinks. He ordered a few of shots and he slid one over to you.
You eyed him cautiously. He rolls his eyes, âWeâre about to eat anyway. Come on.â He downs his first shot.
You say what the hell and just down it too. Then you go back to your seats just as the servers are bringing out the food.Â
âTell me. What's so good about him?â Sweet Pea asks. He managed to clue it together when he remembered your earlier words about knowing how it felt to not have feelings returned. He asked because he really wanted to know why you would want to come to exâs wedding, on purpose. If it were up to him, he wouldnât have come but everyone said it was ok and he even spoke to Josie who asked him if there were no hard feelings. Of course Sweet Pea said no but as soon as those words left his mouth it left a bad taste in his mouth.Â
A server passed with some champagne and you waved him over. You brought the glass to your lips, avoiding Sweet Peaâs gaze. He raised his brows at you waiting for you to answer. âI feel so stupid just thinking itâ you take a long drink.Â
âSo youâre not over your ex?â he asks.Â
âIt's not like that.â
âWhatâs it like then?â he challenged.
You continue to avoid meeting his eyes and shake your head. âYou wouldnât understand.â
âDespite what you may think of me, Iâm actually a pretty understanding guy. And when I want to, I can be a good listener too.â This time he smiles softly and encouragingly.Â
You side eye him before downing the rest of your drink. âOkay but, don't laugh,â pointing your finger at him in warning.Â
He pressed his lips into a thin line to stop himself from smiling but nodded for you to go on.Â
What harm could telling him do now? You just wanted to rip the bandaid off and get the conversation out of the way.Â
You set down your glass and faced him. âHe was my first college boyfriend. My first real boyfriend.â Slightly shaking your head as you thought about it.Â
âWe were together maybe three months? I donât remember but I was head over heels for this guy. We had so much in common. He liked going to all the same places I did, we had the same favorite foods and movies. It was like we were meant to be. Like we were⌠soulmates.â You gauge his reaction and find that heâs looking at you as if with concern. âWhat? I really think,â you caught yourself, âthought, we were soulmates.â
That piqued his interest. âThought?â
You shrugged. âI don't know. Seeing them together, it just made me think that maybe he was never really my soulmate. Maybe I was just too caught up in my first love to really see it.â
Sweet Pea just hums in understanding but he didnât quite know what to say. So he went with, âWow⌠you were right. I donât understand.â His tone had a teasing edge to it that you couldn't keep the smile off your lips.Â
âLook we all make mistakes when it comes to love. Itâs just life.â
You sigh but donât say anything, getting too lost in your own thoughts.Â
âYou know, you could have just told me this when I told you about Josie. It would have made me feel a lot better to know you werenât a complete basket case.â
âYou thought I was crazy?â you ask.Â
He laughs. You notice the crinkles surrounding his eyes as he does so. âOh I still do. Totally bonkers! Man, I fear for my safety.â At a passing server he asked, âExcuse me, do you know this woman she says sheâs my date but I donât know her.â The man ignored him and kept walking.Â
You laugh too as you swat his arm lightly, partly because he was mocking you and partly because at one point you thought about the possibility of him being loony as well. âIâm sorry. Okay.â When the laughter between you died down you added, âI just didnât want to seemâŚâ
âPathetic?â you nod. âThat makes two of us.â By then, the food had been served and you had more drinks in front of you. He raises his glass. âCheers.â
âWhat are we cheering to?â
âTo being pathetic. Weâre both at our exes wedding. And weâre both still single.â Sweet Pea scoffed a laugh, shook his head, and took a long swig of his drink.Â
You took a long swig of your drink as well seeing as how Sweet Peaâs words rang too true.
âI had to post an ad to get a date, and you had to answer it to be here. I think weâre both pretty pathetic right now. How much worse can it get?â
After dinner and a few more drinks, you and Sweet Pea were getting more comfortable around each other, you were having fun but anytime any of you even looked at the bride and groom those feelings of inadequacy returned which really dampened the mood quite a bit.
During the couplesâ first dance you two stepped out, away, not wanting to see that. It felt nice being alone without the chaos of the reception. Though you could still softly hear the music and people laughing.
You two held hands as he led you somewhere you couldnât be seen.
âUh oh, is this where you kill me?â you joke.
âOnly if I wanted to kill you with kissesâ he admits.Â
You giggled unsure if it had to do with the alcohol you consumed or the company you were keeping. âOh that was so smooth.â
He shrugs and shines his oh so cocky yet charming smile. âLets dance, yeah?â
You bring your arms up around his neck while his hands go to your hips. You sway softly to the barely audible music and just look into each other's eyes. He really was very handsome and it still baffled you that he had trouble finding a date to this wedding.Â
Sweet Pea was just thanking the stars, and Betty, for sending you that email link to his ad because he was really glad it was you he brought. He couldnât imagine being here with anyone else.Â
Everything just seemed to be working out. Itâs been fun if you were being honest.Â
âYou know, I thought I'd be more upset.â
âAbout what,â he asked.
âAbout finding out he was never my soulmate. It definitely hurts to see them together. But Iâm not too broken up about it, you know?â
He nodded but still asked, âWhat changed?â
You think about it for a second but come up blank. âI donât know, but Iâm glad it did.â
He looked up at the reception and asked, âDo you think weâll ever have something this?
You follow his gaze, âWe will. I mean who wouldnât want us? Weâre great catches. You managed to find a date, I managed to get in via plus one, and we didnât ruin the wedding. Iâd count that as a success.â
You both just laugh as you continue to sway back and forth. You stayed like that for another while longer just swaying, smiling and looking into each others eyes in complete comfortable silence. It felt like the most natural thing in the world to be in this stranger's arms. Only he didnât feel like a stranger. He felt warm and safe. Dare you say, he felt like home.Â
Out of the corner of your eye you spot some movement, you try to ignore it but then you hear a giggle getting closer so you snuck a quick glance at who was coming your way. That was when you spotted the bride and groom heading straight for the two of you.Â
âDonât freak outâ he quickly raised his eyebrows, âbut the bride and groom are heading our way.â
âWhat?â he whisper yelled. He was about to pull away but you held onto him tightly against you.Â
You smile and giggle as if he just told you something funny. He looks at you strangely. You tell him, âWeâre being watched.â
He looks concerned. He just knows Josie will see right through him and figure it all out and then the two of you will look like fools.Â
âDo you trust me?â you ask.
He nods and follows your lead.Â
âLook at me. Breathe in and slowly exhale. We got this. Relax. Now smile softly.â
He tries but appears pained yet you can't help but smile at his attempts. âDonât look so scared Sweet Pea, I promised I wouldnât kill you.â
That got him to relax a bit more. They were still a little ways away. You cupped his handsome face into your hands.Â
âItâs time to put those acting skills to work, okay?â
He brought his hands on top of yours. Then he grabs your left hand and presses a gentle kiss on the palm of it. It gave you butterflies but you couldnât dwell on that just yet. You were on a mission to deliver the best performance of your life.Â
In the softest voice you could muster, you began. âLook at me as if you were experiencing the sunset for the first time. In a world with dull blacks and whites, the sunset is the first burst of soft colors you see. The swirling of pinks, purples and oranges.âÂ
You can see the start of a loving smile on his face. It suited him. He was starting to look more at peace than he had the entire evening. You continue, âLook at me like a parent seeing their newborn child for the first time. Happy that they are alive and healthy. Look at me like Iâm your greatest love. Your soulmate.âÂ
Now his smile was so wide that it seemed to meet his eyes. âLike I just told you I love you for the first time.âÂ
As he continues to smile, his gaze briefly slides down to your lips before looking you in the eye again. To think that he wants to kiss you is so very tempting yet he seems unsure of himself. He knows he wants to kiss you. Heâs been wanting to since he first saw you but he didnât know if that was something you wanted.Â
Sure, youâd been actively flirting with him but maybe you were just that good of an actress. Maybe you were just using your skills and he was falling for the wrong person, again.Â
You could see his internal dilemma. He wanted to kiss you but he was holding back. Here he was being a true gentleman. Not every man in this situation would do the same. Some would have felt entitled for more but not Sweet Pea.Â
It had been a long time since you had dated and youâve seen people genuinely care about you but the look on his face was different. It was as if you had spoken life into the words you were describing to him just a few seconds ago. He was looking at you as if you were his whole world.Â
Nobody had ever looked at you with such intensity. It made your heart tighten and your stomach flutter. You havenât known this man for more than a few hours and already you felt a much deeper connection to him than the man you thought was your soulmate for years.Â
You had to take that chance right? This kind of connection is what most people only dream of having. Who were you to let that slip through your fingers simply because you two had just met?
You leaned up to him and brought your lips together in a slow and sensual kiss.Â
The two of you hadnât noticed how much time had gone by until you heard someone cough in an attempt to get your attention. You pulled apart, slightly out of breath, and a bit embarrassed you had been so caught up in the moment.Â
The bride and groom stood a few feet from you. His arm wrapped around his new wifeâs waist as his eyes fell on you and it took a second for him to recognize you.Â
Just before he could say anything, Josie unwraps herself from him and goes to give Sweet Pea a hug. âIâm so glad you came.â
âI wouldnât have missed itâ he lied. âItâs not everyday you get to show off that you know a star.âÂ
âSpeaking of showing off. Is this your girlfriend?â
âNoâ you elbow him. âI mean yes. Sorry, I meant no as in...â
âIts ok,â you say to Sweet Pea as you take his nervous hand in yours. âWeâre still figuring things out. Itâs pretty new.â Hours actually, not that it was real but you really wanted it to be.Â
âItâs a small world.â Josieâs new husband finally chimed in. âFancy seeing you hereâ he told you.Â
âYeah.â This time it was your turn to lie. âI didnât know whose wedding this was when I got invited. All I knew was that it was an old friend of Sweet Peaâs.â You turned to look at him with a shy smile.Â
âWait,â Josie looked between you and her husband. âYou two know each other?â
You had no idea what he would say. He could straight up lie and say you were just friends or that you had a class together in college. In fact, you were prepared for the lie but it never came. âMe and Y/n briefly dated as freshman.â
Josie seemed surprised at the revelation. âOh.â
To you, it felt more than âbrieflyâ but apparently to him it was something he had long ago forgotten. âRight. Briefly.â Had you heard him say that any other time it would have really stung but for some reason it didnât. Maybe it had to do with the fact that you can see how happy he is now or the fact that you are having unusually strong feels for the man whose hand is currently in yours.Â
âWe had a general ed class together. Thatâs how we met. We had so much in common. Maybe too much, that's why we ended things.â He looked down at his wife.Â
That is not exactly how you remembered things. You distinctly remember him saying that you two just wouldnât work out in the long run and that you would be better off as friends, but it definitely wasnât a mutual breakup. He made the decision all on his own and you had no choice but to go along with it. What were you supposed to do? Beg him to give you another chance? That really wasnât your style.Â
âI know I have my moments but it would be too vain to would want to date myselfâ he joked and Josie laughed. A real laugh, not just because she wanted to make him feel better about his obviously lame joke. He looked back to you. âNow that I think about it, I donât understand why we didnât stay friends.âÂ
You shrugged, âDifferent majors I guess. We sort of just lost touch.âÂ
It was quiet for a few seconds as nobody knew what to say, a slow fog of awkwardness surrounding you.Â
âCongratulations on the wedding. Really, it was the most beautiful thing Iâve ever seen.â
âThank youâ they said at the same time and looked into each others eyes and giggled like shy teenagers in love. It was really weird to watch.Â
âIt really was lovely, Josie. Iâm so happy for youâ Sweet Pea said.Â
She smiled. âThank you Sweet Pea. That means a lot.â Before the awkward silence could seep back through she pointed out the question you and Sweet Pea had been dreading. âOk so, me and Sweet Pea know each other from our hometown. You two met in college,â she points to you and her husband. âBut how do you and Sweet Pea know each other?âÂ
It was an automatic answer. Too automatic that it sounded rehearsed. âAt a party, through a friend.âÂ
This time you and Sweet Pea laughed it off. âBetty introduced usâ said Sweet Pea.Â
She laughed. âAh, Betty. Always the matchmaker.â Which was totally true. She loved being in love with her high school sweetheart that she wanted everyone to have a taste of what she had.Â
Finally Josieâs new husband spoke up. âHoney, we should get back before your mother thinks Iâve dragged you off for some pre-honey moon activities.â
She rolled her eyes and groaned, âYouâre right, I swear that woman has been such a bridezilla about everything and itâs not even her wedding.â
âCut her some slack, she just wanted her only daughter to have the perfect wedding.â He turns to you and Sweet Pea, âIt was really great to see you and we hope you enjoy the rest of the reception.â
They waved and said goodbye and when you and Sweet Pea were finally alone again you both were able to breathe freely and after a second you both started cracking up. You two did it. You managed to get through the entire wedding and an interaction with the bride and groom without completely falling apart.Â
After the laughter subsided, you realized you two were still holding hands as you both smiled at each other. It was a pretty quiet save for the crickets chirping in the night and the soft sounds coming from the reception.Â
âYou wanna go dance in there?â he nods towards where the dancefloor is located. âAs my date real date to this wedding?â
You smile brightly and he pulls you by your intertwined hand and you feel that same fluttering in your stomach youâve been feeling almost all night. You donât know how you got this lucky to be here.Â
Sweet Pea turned to you and winked. He definitely was a charmer and you were already a sucker for it.Â

âThatâs the initiation?â You shrieked, âThatâs insane!â
âWhat can I say? I tried to get it outlawed but no-one would bite.â Toni commented.
âWho the hell wanted to keep it?â
Sweet Pea called from the pool table, âItâs all the old guys whoâve been Serpents since the dawn of time. The barely participate in the meetings except when it comes to this.â
âOkay, thatâs really creepy. Wait, I donât remember Cheryl doing it.â Even though you werenât a member, you were around for most Serpent events. All your friends were Serpents as well as your boyfriend.
Toni smiled down at the bar, âShe was⌠a special case.â
You nodded, knowing that if anyone asked her to do the Serpent Dance sheâd slice them into a million pieces and scatter them at her wedding like confetti. âWell, I say we hold another vote.â
A few scattered chuckles resonated through the group as if you were some naive little girl.
âCome on, guys. That last vote happened before most of you were Serpents and no-one would listen. Jugheadâs king now and donât you think heâd fight for this?â
âJughead just became king. We all want him to stay king but if he tried shaking things up like this so quickly heâd lose a lot of support from other members,â Toni reasoned.
âJugheadâs been shaking things up since he was born.â
Everyone still seemed hesitant and you couldnât hide your disappointment until Sweet Pea finally broke the quiet.
âIâll support it.â
Your face lit up, âReally?â
âYeah, youâre right. It should change,â He said walking up to wrap his arms around you. Then he leaned in close and whispered: âPlus, I think I should be the only one to see you put on a show like that.â
You giggled as Toni piped up too, âIf this is really happening then Iâm definitely in.â
You all looked at Fangs, âIâm a dick if I donât arenât I?â
Everyone nodded, even the bartender no-one knew was listening.
âIâm kidding! Iâm in.â
You cheered, âIâm gonna find Jug right now.â
Sweet Peaâs eyes followed you as you bounded away, a smile tugging at his lips.
Toni laughed behind him, âWow, Pea, you are smitten.â
He turned around, âWhat are you talking about?â
âYou never involve yourself in anything.â It was Fangs this time, âYou just let things be. Now suddenly youâre willing to take up this whole cause just because y/n suggested it.â
Pea just scoffed and ignored him. The others let it go, they knew how stubborn he was. You couldnât convince him of anything, he always had to come to his conclusions alone.
âCome on, letâs finish the game, Pea. I might actually win this time!â
Later that week, Serpents of all ages gathered together in the White Wyrm paying rapt attention as Jughead took to the stage.
âY/n has called for the girlsâ initiation process, the Serpent Dance, to be outlawed. Sheâs been backed up by several Serpent members and itâs been agreed that we will vote either for an outlaw or against.â
You took a deep breath and began to climb the steps to the stage. As it was your idea, you would be the one to present the argument and even though you were impossibly nervous, you wouldnât let it show. It would just make you seem like a weak, frightened girl - the opposite of what you were trying to argue. âThe girlsâ Serpent initiation is sexist and degrading, but this has all been said before. By Toni Topaz, before she was a Serpent. Anyone who knows Toni knows that she is one of the strongest, fiercest people you will ever meet, more so than most of the guys here. So is her girlfriend, Cheryl, who originally dismissed us until she realised the loyalty, unity, and respect we have for each other, and became one of us.â
Toni and Cheryl smiled from the crowd, honoured to have been mentioned in your speech.
As you continued, Sweet Pea was trying not to fade into his thoughts. The speech was excellent, he knew - youâd practised it in front of him a hundred times over - but this time you spoke with so much more drive than before. Instead of focusing on the words, he found himself thinking about how incredible you were, how strong-willed and passionate you were.
âThe sixth Serpent law is the most important: âin unity, there is strengthâ. If the initiation processes are different then how can we be truly unified? We are stronger as one, we are stronger together, we are stronger equal. In unity, there is strength.â
The room repeated it back to you and Sweet Peaâs applause alone could have filled the room.
Jughead stepped up beside you, âAll in favour of an outlaw say âayeâ.â
Almost every Serpent in the room chanted their approval.
You couldnât suppress the squeal of joy and you ran down to meet a beaming Sweet Pea who picked you and twirled you round.
âWe did it, Sweets!â You said excitedly.
The two of you spun around and around until you were both dizzy and breathless. Only then did he put you down, but still wouldnât let go, instead, he kept his hands at your waist as he spoke. âI love you.â
Your heart skipped a beat. Your eyes widened to the size of golf balls. Even though it was only a few moments, every possible scenario ran through Sweet Peaâs head.
You took his face in your hands and roughly pressed your lips to his. When you broke away you spoke, âI love you too, so much.â
He kissed you again and you basked in the wonderfulness of the moment. Nothing could take this time away from you, and nothing ever would.
