Why Soursop refuses to bear: Soursop trees often frustrate growers when blossoms drop or fails off. The main cause is poor pollination, flowers open in male and female phases at different times, so natural overlap is rare. Without beetles or hand‑pollination, blossoms fall before fruit sets. Soil health is another factor: soursops thrive in loamy, well‑drained soil enriched with compost. Nutrient deficiencies also plays an important part, especially low nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, weaken flowers. Water stress, whether drought or waterlogging, disrupts bloom development. Sunlight is critical; trees need 6–8 hours of direct exposure, and shade from taller plants reduces flowering strength. Environmental stress, such as sudden heat, wind, or heavy rain, can trigger shedding. Pests and fungal infections also damage blossoms, preventing fruiting. A common issue is black ants feeding on nectar and protecting aphids or scale insects. To manage them, prune weak growth, disrupt ant trails with vinegar water, and use barriers like sticky tape or diatomaceous earth around trunks. Natural deterrents such as cinnamon, coffee grounds, or chili powder at the base are safe and effective. Control aphids and scale to remove the honeydew that attracts ants. Aloe vera sprays are harmless but not very effective compared to these proven methods. Pruning is best during the full moon especially dark nights, days before the new moon.
