That night he and the others had been drinking tea, (what makes this even sadder, is that while jianzhu had planned to poison Kuruk, Kelsang and hei ran were obviously not in on the plan, and were happy to spend one more night with their old friend despite growing apart and believing him to be a alcoholic slacker, Kelsang even states that he wishes for Kuruk to “heal” and “find happiness again”, implying he knew, or at least suspected about Kuruk’s secret)
