#source calling

1 - Please include your full source name , who you are ( obviously. ) , specify if you are a kin or apart of a system , age range ( “i’m a minor” / “i’m an adult” is okay. ) , and preferred contact.

2 - You may include source memories or how you looked and things of such, but please do not add a whole lot, as mod may have a hard time reading.

for those of you who are blissfully unaware, a source call is when an irl, fictionkin, introject, etc., posts a 'call' for their source mates to find and interact with. the purpose of these is usually to find friends or find familiar people to talk to! for the purpose of today's topic, i'm going to primarily focus on introject source calls.

there's a good side and a bad side to everything, and of course that's also the case with source calls. on the bright side of them, an introject can find some familiar faces to talk with! on the not-so-bright side, source calls can lead to introjects being dehumanized and viewed as a character instead of a person.

so where's the common ground? how do you do a source call while remaining respectful to whichever system you're talking to? in my opinion, this can be done, you just have to tread extremely carefully.

first of all, you need to remember that the person you're talking to is a person, not your memory of their source character. talking to source mates is fun and all, but remember: they have different memories, just like you. they're their own person with their own beliefs and ideals, and don't have to align with your exact recollection of their source. because that's all you're remembering. you're remembering their source, not them.

second of all, you need to be respectful towards the system you're speaking to as a whole. don't be rude to other alters if they show up, be willing to get to know the entire system, not just the person you've source called from. don't get mad when they leave front, and remember there's another person on the other side of the screen.

third of all, just don't be an asshole! don't treat the other person like a character, don't try to force your memories and perception of their source onto them, and overall remain kind throughout the entire thing.

if you do all this, i genuinely think you're all good to do as you please! as much as source calls can be dodgy, as long as you follow a basic criteria of respect and kindness when doing them, i think you're fine. it's not a crime for introjects from the same source to interact, and it shouldn't be treated that way! they should just be very respectful of each other and remember that the other is their own person. :}
