ok. hi the context here is that i'm working on a pre-botb fic where orion enters them for a songwriting competition. he intends on sending her alone to push her out of her comfort zone but she insists on someone going with her so she's dipping into her savings to help fund the trip :-) this is in the intro so a lottttttt more will happen (cough cough only one bed. orion and sofía alone together for a week. slowly getting closer. a smooch or two or three............ and more.)
"Say it, Orion. My skin is thick… enough." That earns her a quiet laugh. "I understand why you need someone to accompany you, but I think it's reckless to take on the financial burden alone." "Well… it's my money. My choice." Her lip pouts into a frown. "Yes. I know." "Then why did you say anything at all?" She rarely gets upset with Orion, but this is the closest she's been to it in a while. "I…" He trails off, going silent for a beat. "You have massive potential, Sofía… and you tend to limit yourself." That's by design, she so desperately wants to say. She's independent in the ways that matter — she practically raised herself. She's been working since she was a preteen — babysitting children in the neighborhood way too young, tutoring as soon as she was able — and made enough money to both buy her friends birthday gifts every year and build up her personal library. Never asks people for favors, tries not to take up too much space. The stage is her greatest burden… it's made her into a burden. She bites her tongue. It's not worth getting into.
