i cant decide whats more fun. maybe ruby managed to pull whatever political power she had to at least get one of her kids out of the way and said child is watching this safely from an oichen foster home (poor kid tho). and that definitely doesnt traumatize either of them or lead to a horrific favorite complex <333
or maybe nova snatched them up too (lets say the kid is a bit younger than the and is trying to prove how good and pure she is by being like see :)) i love your sibling too :)) even tho they dont have my blood. arent i nice :)) (shes LITERALLY nice)
or. ok to make this more horrifying: lets say the ruby devin baby is signifcantly older. like. old enough to be a young adult. and they look very similiar to devin. but with all of rubys skills in fawning and being Nice. and this kid, who is in Hell and dont know if there mom is alive and their little sibling is being obsessed over by This fucking women. and theyve had a few a few people joke or mention how they look so similiar to devin, but Nicer.
and theyre like. ok. i think i know a way to get into the devils good graces.
if we want to make the political bullshit hell worse: i think itd be really funny if the devin nova baby was like. a Prodigy in light magic. to a signifcant degree.
to the point where this kid has somehow personally met the oichen light god. maybe even has some kind of friendship/apprenticeship with them. ruby would obviously be Fucking Hesitant about this (fair) but also it would be good. to have a god of gaslightings backing when your hiding a baby. so yknow. options!!
and maybe when everything goes down shes at the oiche light temple. learning a far more healthy version of light magic. and the oichen light god strolls in like "im sorry who the fuck wants one of my Children??"
is this just an excuse to see what would happen if 2 light gods warred because i think itd be fun and i want nova to get her ass handed to her by someone mirroring her own magic. Maybe!
putting these together because i think they work great even if they didn't come from the same person. (though i assume they are from the same person?)
i think i like lily (the devin nova baby) being a non-magician, but there was a suggestion a while back about the devin-ruby baby (who i'm naming starlight for the moment) being a prodigy light magician, and i remain Obsessed with that. i think it would be Delightful if sorcha the oichen light god knows both lily and starlight because they're together so often. and if ruby has indeed sought sorcha's help in staying safe from the tachnin military.
maybe not telling sorcha everything.... but like. ruby is a woman who left oiche for tachni during the famine & returned years later with two babies and a haunted look in her eyes. sorcha would know not to ask too many questions about where the kids came from. like, sorcha would assume both were ruby's bio kids, but whether ruby was "allowed" to have them, or whether they're technically the property of some tachnin corporation, or whether ruby actually served out the terms of her contract before leaving tachni....
well! sorcha doesn't need to know all that. sorcha can just keep blessing ruby's future and making her luck turn better. the kind of blessings a benevolent god might give someone with a vengeful ex or abusive family or, indeed, a horrifying humanity-violating enslavement contract.
have a story about lily. starlight's fate is purposefully ambiguous there because i'm having fun splashing in both worlds mentally.... a sibling similarly torn from family and being used as collateral against ruby, because ruby knows nova would never hurt her little lost princess baby, but ruby Doesn't know whether nova would hurt ruby's other child. OR starlight being at home, probably taken in by sorcha in the aftermath...
in fact. i like the idea of sorcha having a premonition about what's going to happen. and knowing that he for Damn Sure cannot fight against tachni's light god. and knowing how fragile oiche's peace is. and knowing how imperative it is that he himself does not get caught in another cycle of Getting Assassinated Every Couple Weeks-to-Months.
so he focuses all his energy on protecting starlight. manages to get the boy away from home on the night everything goes down. keeps him hidden as the scandal unfolds. weathers star's horror and betrayal and demands to go Get His Fucking Mum And Sister, Now, Right The Fuck Now...
