There is not enough love in this world, especially when it come to loving oneself. Too often do people apologize for what they look like and who they are. This needs to stop. Sonya Renee is dedicating her life to this cause so that people will learn to love who they are.

I have met Sonya Renee twice. The first was a little over a year ago. I had never heard of her or what she is trying to accomplish, but in one night she went from being a complete stranger to one of my heroes. Sonya Renee is an slam poet who is using her art to change the world. As founder of The Body Is Not An Apology, Sonya preaches for Radical Self Love -- the idea that no one should be ashamed of the body they were born into or who they are. 

I have had the opportunity to see Sonya perform twice. Sonya puts her heart and soul into every performance, causing the audience to laugh till their belly aches one moment and tear up the next. Her poems touch on many different subjects from woman's right to control their body to the need to smile and pass on our love.  

The second time I met Sonya Renee was two weeks ago during a Planned Parenthood Action Council of Utah fundraiser, celebrating the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and honoring woman's right to choice. We had a nice discussion about her foundation, The Body is Not An Apology. Founded less than four years ago, this amazing movement has reach thousands of people all over the world. It is inspiring people to love and share who they are with the world. 

We remember the explosion of t-shirts with sayings a few years ago; while many fashionistas were happy to see them go, there are quite a few that I want to stick around - love Simdog's "No Photos Please" tee.
