Hey, everyone! After an exciting and wonderful run in 2025, we're setting things up for Sonic Supernova 2026, starting with opening applications for our staff team!

What is Sonic Supernova?

It's a free, online collaborative event run by fans for fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise! It's similar to a Big Bang fandom event – what sets Sonic Supernova apart is that creation of collaborative fanworks of mediums beyond fanart and fanfiction, including animatics, comics, music, and even visual novels. What positions are available?

For 2026, we're looking for applicants for the following positions:

Server social events organizer

Server moderators (Gen)

Server moderators (NSFW)

Design team illustrators

Can I apply?

So long as you're 18 or older and a Sonic fan, you can apply to staff for Sonic Supernova! You don't need prior experience to be accepted either. We'll reach out to all applicants for a chat where we can clarify any questions and gauge whether moderating and assisting Sonic Supernova would work out for the applicant logistically. Hey there! Thanks so much for you question and interest in the event!

This can be answered by our wiki, which I will quote here: "Primary and supporting creators are more general terms for the roles of different creators' work in a team—e.g. in a traditional Big Bang, a writer is a primary creator and an artist is a supporting creator.

In a traditional Big Bang, writers are tasked with creating fanfiction of which artists create illustrations. In this sense, the writers create the primary work that artists support with their art. In a Reverse Big Bang, as the name suggests, the artists are the ones creating a primary work (a piece of artwork) for which writers create a supporting piece (a fanfiction based off the artwork).

For Sonic Supernova, we want to feature not only fanfiction and fanart, but fanworks of other mediums, such as fan comics, voice acting, essay writing, or creating physical media. Obviously, telling people they could sign up as writers or artists like in a traditional Big Bang wouldn't work for us; we needed new terms to capture the fact that we welcome all kinds of fanworks. For that reason, we came up with the terms primary and supporting creators."

I'm looking forward to signing up for the 2026 supernova! I have one question. I'm over the age of 18 and aware any prompts or works that are mature or nsfw are opt-in, including the nsfw chat. I would like to ask, what exactly does the nsfw chat feature/look like? I'm mostly asking because I can handle mature themes and some talk about that stuff, but if it's specifically for sharing nsfw content and drawings and writings then I would like to know so I can opt-out of it for sign up form. Personally I'm just a bit easily uncomfortable with that kind of stuff so I'd want to avoid it, but if that chat won't really feature it then I'd check out the chat just to see it. Of course I'd assume I could later opt-out of it or just mute the chat if I don't want to be there anymore.

As a general rule of thumb, we follow AO3's guidelines on content, which is outlined in their Content Policy FAQ. The social NSFW side of our discord allows discussion of most mature topics freely, although we have a specific list of topics that MUST be tagged and shared using discord's spoiler feature. This list covers what some may consider "extreme". However, we encourage participants to tag and spoiler if they worry the topic shared could make others uncomfortable.

As for you opting in or out, you are free to do so at any time! We encourage you to tailor the space as much as you like while keeping important channels unmuted. These channels will never feature anything mature.

Sonic Supernova follows a "ship and let ship; don't like, don't read" policy. We welcome creators and ships of all kinds from the Sonic fandom; we have zero tolerance for harassing, slandering, threatening, or bashing users on the basis of what they enjoy in fiction.

Sonic Supernova is a fan community event run by Sonic fans, for Sonic fans! We want to keep the parts about Big Bang events common in fandom that we love and have on our own spin on what we would like to see in a fandom-wide event. The fundamental formula of Sonic Supernova remains unchanged from that of a Big Bang event: teams of creators will come together to develop a collaborative fanwork over the duration of a creative period, after which their fanwork will be posted.
