Like look at how much Amy merch you can find right now. Go on, go into a random Target or Walmart and look for Amy Rose merch. You might find a frilly t-shirt for girls if you're lucky. More likely a shirt highlighting her crush on Sonic over the fact she can kill you with a hammer. Sega has a serious issue when it comes to promoting, marketing, and acknowledging its women. Which isn't just a Sega problem, it's a massive issue in video games as a whole, with companies being scared that fem protagonists will scare away their male customer base bc eewww boys don't like playing as girls :( girls have to play as boys tho that's fine

But all the marketing has been. Look at this epic reveal of Amy in the post-credits scene. The logo is pink. Reveal announcement for her VA and it's a Disney Princess + comedian who recently starred in one of the most well-regarded sitcoms of the decade. And now the filming announcement pic is HER hammer, which they BUILT IRL. It's not just "this is the Amy movie, so here's some hearts and flowers and a Valentine's promo" it's "THIS IS AN AMY MOVIE AND SHE IS GOING TO KICK SOME ASS"

and not to say that hearts and flowers and romance shit is bad. but for an action franchise it's so easy to reduce the main girl to that instead of letting her be as active as the boys
