I am completely astounded and appalled by what's happening with bandcamp right now. It's times like these I wish I took the time to learn how to hack properly or literally learn any effective means of fucking with companies other than shouting angrily at them. Fuck the original owner fr for starting the domino effect he created that will inevitably tear the site down just because he was bored with all the money it was generating ig, fuck epic for them chewing up and spitting out a company that was WAY more profitable before they ever had their disgusting hands on it and fuck songtradr for being so incompetent, firing half the staff AND THEN THE WHOLE UNION AFTER THEY CAME TO BARGAIN. I have no idea how you could be a creator and pro capitalist. It's essentially praying for the downfall of your ability to create. I'm not gonna stop releasing until there's no more means to do so. They can take our sites but they can never take the burning passion of a creator. If they put up boards we'll pull em down, work around em or find a new path entirely. We are not going to fucking stand for this piss poor treatment.
This Could Be The End Of BANDCAMP As We Know It!!!
Bandcamp is a music streaming platform for bands to sell their music and merch that the platform only takes a small cut of versus Spotify that rips artists off making millions while never turning a profit! The company has been owned by Epic Games and was recently sold to Songtradr for around $270 millions dollars. In the process around have of the people employed by band camp were laid of albeit with a more then fair severance package while the other half were asked to stay. Epic Games sold the company stating that it lacked financial stability even though it has slowly but surly been making money for not only the company but the artist who use it where as Spotify loses millions every year and basically robs the artists on its platform. What do you think Bandcamp could do to more appealing to a broader audience? Do you use either Bandcamp or Spotify? What are your likes and dislikes about the platforms? #bandcamp #music #news #podcast Sources: https://www.npr.org/2020/08/19/903547... Sources: https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.co... "Hey I think capitalism is bad. In particular, this specific aspect, for these reasons."
"Surely you don't mean what you just specifically said though!"
With Bandcamp being gutted, who is up to start a new indie music platform?

I am absolutely devastated by this news. Bandcamp's former workers and indie musicians will all be negatively impacted by this. I hope a new platform arises from this, but until then, many people's sources of income will be in limbo. My page focuses on goth music, but I hope that indie musicians and music fans of all genres come together during this time.

Around 50 percent of employees have been laid off since Epic sold the company.
half the bandcamp team was just laid off, following epic's decision to sell bandcamp to songtradr (after acquiring bc in early 2022). much of this wave of layoffs included their editorial team, bandcamp daily. please keep your eye on their union, bandcamp united (+ their twitter), for next steps. it would probably also be a good idea to start archiving articles and downloading your digital purchases now, since it seems that no one's really sure what the next steps are for the platform
