Prompts for Fanfiction Writers #1 - Eldritch Crossover

So, this is something for all you fanfiction authors to consider. Â Iâm sure all of you have at least read a crossover at some point. Â Some of you have probably written crossovers, as well. Â Youâve all seen those fanfics where a character from one world ends up in another, and either goes along with that other fandomâs canon plot or completely upends it in either spectacular or fucked-up ways, right? Â The thing is, generally, those fics involve human or human-like characters, people who might be a little different but are ultimately still something that can fit into either world.
Now, hereâs a different take on that classic crossover fanfiction for you to think about.  A portal to another world opens and dumps a character from your favorite fandom into another fandomâs world. At first glance, they seem normal to the people of the world theyâve been shunted into.  But, after taking a second glance, thereâs something distinctly⌠unsettling about them.  Maybe something about them almost seems to reject the reality the characters of this other world know.  Perhaps the transition between worlds has given them a new ability that seems⌠painfully unnatural to both their own world and this one.  Or perhaps thereâs something so blatantly unsettling and unnatural about them that the people of this new world theyâve been shunted into just canât comprehend them, and they go mad, one at a time⌠ To one world, another worldâs occupants could very well seem eldritch, unknowable and unfathomable, without ever possessing the same incomprehensible forms attributed to the Elder Gods of Lovecraftâs nightmares⌠or they might be blatantly eldritch abominations, something that simply cannot be understoodâŚ
