I came out last year as nonbinary to my dad, and when I visited him this year, he said that LGBT+ has nothing to do with me, despite the fact that I'm nonbinary. I'm kinda salty about him saying that, and still using she/her for me.
Pops: Well for starters you are a part of the lgtbq community since it's anyone that does not fall under a cis heteronormative individual. As for your dad he'll come around in due time, it might take a while. Using they/them pronouns for someone is a relatively recent topic that has come up in the media, since it is being talked about those who have little understanding are probably very confused. Know that it isn't his fault that he does not understand, just explain to him what the terms mean calmly, in sure he will come around.
