Dear working professionals, if you and another colleague arrange for you to cover one of their all-day clinical absences while still seeing your own full schedule without telling anyone else that you’re doing this, please don’t call in an hour before the day starts to say you feel a little under the weather and won’t be coming in. Also please don’t do this without telling the rest of us that you were actually covering two full clinic schedules today and that you’re leaving upwards of 40 patients with no doctor to see them.
Especially please don’t do this when there is literally no one else to cover you because three other faculty are already out today and because they let us know they were out ahead of time, we’d already pulled everyone from our backup coverage pool to leave us bone dry in terms of emergency hands.
We’re a small school! We don’t have four-deep coverage! Why in God’s name would you tell someone you were taking their entire schedule on top of your own, not tell anyone else you were doing this, and then just...not show up?
