Yesterday because I couldn't find Justice League : War on streaming I finally decided to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League! Funny to me that it's basically the same story but told in 3 hours longer
I liked it, the 4:3 (I think) aspect ratio was nice, so were the compositing and the pacing, the first 2 hours maybe were very cool but introduced basic backstories when it could have taken less time (since these heroes were having their solo movies later)
I'm not a fan of the Snyder style, treating heroes like gods while showing them having the most simple fights, and while not being technically dull, it really lacked color and some fun (infamous black Superman suit...)
I remember hating in the first version how Superman saved the day all by himself, it's not like that here. Every character (except for Aquaman maybe) plays a role in the final fight and I especially liked Cyborg and Flash. But still, all these 5 powerful beings reuniting just to say "we need Superman back" sounded so dumb to me
(And I say that as a Superman fan, ofc he has to be a member of the Justice League, but I hate that heroes treat him like this divine being as if they weren't incredibly powerful-)
Hated the representation of Steppenwolf and parademons but it's a classic live action issue so I forgive it
Anyway the last 10 minutes of the movie with Bruce's dream were actually the funniest and most interesting, with Luthor, Deathstroke, Joker make an appearance, Mera getting some spotlight and Jaybin mentioned (incredible in live action omg, I was so happy), and finally Martian Manhunter was here (I honestly can't imagine a Justice League without him so thanks Zack !!)
Still, even though I think it was well executed in terms of filmmaking, the story is pretty light for a 4 HOUR movie, and he could have gone way wilder and more comics-like (just like Superman 2025 for instance). In the end I think it was still pretty conventional.
Was nice educating myself in some of the Snyderverse but now I'm gonna go back to DCAU and DCAMU which i think are way more fun o/
