The Governor's House at @snugharborccbg, built in 1847 and designed by #architect William Ranlett. The house was inhabited by the infamous Governor of Sailors' Snug Harbor, Thomas Melville. Thomas was the brother of Herman Melville, author of "Moby Dick." During Melville's tenure as governor, the organization flourished and Melville was responsible for a number of construction projects, including four major dormitories, two gatehouses, and a church tower. Smyth and built in 1885. The homes served as professional staff quarters for the commissary, the secretary, a fleet of engineers, gardeners, bakers, and farmers.
