I just ventured out to Walmart for my usual weekly shopping trip.
This week being a little bit unusual due to the past week’s snowmageddon here in Texas.
I was expecting the store to be pretty empty, because of the heavy news and social media reporting about everything being totally wiped out everywhere. Trying to make everything look like a massive disaster filled with assholes hoarding everything they can grab.
Though, that was not the case at all this morning. Sure, some of the shelves were bare, but there were numerous people working hard to restock them as I was walking up and down the aisles. I only really need a few basic things, and most of those were available.
I briefly spoke with a rep from a bread company who was refilling the shelves. He told me that is a little crazy at first, but his company expects everything to be back to normal by Tuesday. As far as grocery stores are concerned, anyway.
Also, as I was driving down the streets, the gas stations whose tanks were empty as few days ago have already been resupplied and are operating again.
There are still plenty of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed due to things like flooding from busted pipes, and many of those lives will need a lot of help to rebuild.
But other reports about things such as massive food and gas shortages are being greatly exaggerated. All of that will correct itself and be just fine with a few days. Unless too many people keep believing everything they read and hear, and continue to rush the stores to stockpile again. Then, all of those news reports and social media posts just become yet another self-fulfilling prophecy.
As with almost everything, if you give it a little time things will work out and be alright again.
