Friendly reminder that Jean spent his graduation day watching his friends and allies die in the place he grew up, not knowing if his mother was alive, unaware one of the boys he loved with his whole heart took his last breath in the streets he used to run down as a child.
I realized this writing some stuff for my au, which includes Caelan (who spent two years there and considers Trost more of a home than Matley ever was). so hence the 'one of.'
Also in this au Jean and Marco are childhood friends that met and interacted whenever Marco came with one family member or another to Trost. So it hits even harder to see his corpse on the road they used to play tag on just years ago.
It doesn't help that Marco's last interaction with Jean was helping and saving him too. That haunts him endlessly.
π Nickname(s): Bri (everyone except people of higher ranks (Erwin, Pixis, Levi, Hange, etc). They usually call her Thompson), Brat (Levi), short stuff (Levi)
π Age, Birthday, Zodiac: 23 (when she graduates from the Cadet Corps), November 23rd, 827, Sagittarius (if zodiac signs were a thing there lol)
π Orientation: Cis-het
π Religion: Agnostic. She's open to the idea of something, but as for what that "something" is, she's not sure. She's far more interested in what lies beyond the walls than in any deity that may or may not exist, and she thinks the Order of the Walls is silly.
π Birthplace/Hometown: Shiganshina, south edge of Wall Maria, Paradis Island
π Nationality/Ethnicity: Eldian (if we were to take it further, I'd say English and Scottish)
π Accent: Eldian (idk whatever accent everyone else has lmao)
π Languages: Eldian (the language spoken in Paradis)
π Left or Right-Handed: Left-handed, but had to learn to write with her right hand after being burned, so technically ambidextrous
π Occupation: Scout in the Survey Corps
π Love Interest: Levi Ackerman
π Story Trope: Slow burn, strangers to acquaintances to friends to lovers, denial of feelings until they canβt be denied anymore (Levi lol), probably more to come as I figure out their story
π Links: Levi x OC masterlist, Almond Cake (her first official appearance lol)
π Authorβs note: Trigger warning for death during childbirth, postpartum hemorrhaging, pet loss, house fire, being burned/burn scars, bullying, sexual assault & the trauma that follows (this section will be in bold font if you want to skip it. There's no graphic details, but proceed with caution), and death of a parent below the cut. Her backstory is long and tragic & you have been warned. Typical AoT warnings also apply (titans, mentions of the fall of Wall Maria, some mentions of blood and guts, etc). Template by @sa1nt-bambi-ocs. Picture of Bria in the banner was drawn by @millermouth.
π appearance
π Face Claim: None
π Hair Color: Strawberry blonde (like Jean's hair, but more red) with a chunk of white near the front of the left side of her face (from when she was burned)
π Eye Color: Left eye is green, right eye is hazel (heterochromia)
π Skin Tone: Pale with pink undertones
π Face Shape: Heart
π Scar(s): Burn scars that completely cover the left side of her face/scalp, down her neck, half of her chest, her side, part of her back, and her entire left arm
π Birthmark(s): Some freckles speckled across her body, but not many
π Tattoo(s): None, but that's not to say she'd never get any. She'd love to have tattoos on her arm to cover her burn scars--flowers, ferns, things like that.
π Piercings: None
π Accessories: A silver heart-shaped locket that belonged to her mother. She wears it constantly, barely taking it off to shower or sleep.
π Aesthetic/Fashion: Typically, she's in her Scout uniform, and most of the time, that's what she prefers to wear. It makes her feel strong, safe, like she can stand up for and protect herself in the event she would need to do so. She also doesn't particularly like anything with shorter sleeves/a lower or more relaxed neckline, as it's more difficult for her to hide her scars. On the off chance she's not in uniform, she'd wear something similar to it (pants, long sleeves, etc). Her pajamas would look something like this, but she'd only ever change into them once she was in the comfort of her room for the night. If she needed to leave her room for any reason, she'd change back into regular clothes or toss them on over her pajamas.
π Height: 5 foot on the dot
π Body Type: Petite, slender, small frame, light muscle definition
π personality
π General Personality: Social, awkward (when it comes to flirting lol), introverted extrovert (sometimes she recharges by being around others & other times she needs to be alone), friendly, maternal/big sister energy/vibes
π Best Personality Trait(s): Empathy, loyalty, trustworthiness, compassion, kindness, a shoulder to cry on
π Worst Personality Trait(s): Struggles to trust/rely on others, not the best communicator with her feelings, angry crier, can be a little stubborn, likes to be alone when she most definitely should not be
π Good Habit(s): Cleanliness (not as intense as Levi but close lol she hates being dirty), good personal hygiene, maintains her hobbies even during high-stress times (to help keep her sane)
π Bad Habit(s): Will get stuck in her negative spiral of thoughts, difficulty trusting others even when they've proven they can be trustworthy (listen my girl is traumatized let her be okay she's had a hard life), self-depricating, funky sleep schedule (a little bit of an insomniac)
π Trigger(s): Men she doesn't know getting too close/being creepy, anyone speaking ill about either of her parents
π«± Likes: Plants, botany, tea (green tea especially), her uniform, alchemy, the color green, her chosen family, her friends, cats, being a Scout
π Dislikes: Men, being underestimated/not taken seriously because of her size, feeling like she constantly has to wear an eye patch to hide her heterochromia, flirting (she tries & just ends up making "a fool of herself" in the process), her birthday, titans, asparagus, any sort of sweetener added to her tea (she'd rather have a sweet treat on the side and drink her tea with nothing added)
π Goals: Find her assailant & give him the punishment he deserves, eradicate/learn the secrets of the titans, survive, hopefully find love one day, start a family if she's ever lucky enough
π Fears: Being taken advantage of, forever being the ugly duckling, never learning the secret of the titans and getting justice for her father, losing her mother's necklace, never finding happiness
π Talents: Use of ODM gear, making the perfect cup of tea, botany knowledge, doodling/drawing (plants specifically), baking bread
π Weaknesses: Freezing/fawning trauma response (look I don't believe that's a weakness, but she does), doesn't feel safe unless she's wearing her Scout uniform, chronic pain from her scars

π Lover: Levi Ackerman
π Pets: Growing up, she had a cat named Lady, whom she unfortunately lost when Wall Maria was breached
π backstory
Bria Caprice Thompson came into the world on the eve of November 23rd, 827. Her parents, Caprice and Adrian Thompson, got together as teenagers after knowing each other since they were both around five years old. A decade of romance and one wedding later, they sat together, hand in hand, ready to welcome their first child into their lives. Unfortunately, her mother wouldn't have the honor of seeing her grow up, as not long after Bria was cleaned & placed back in her arms, she began to hemorrhage. The doctors did everything they could to stop the bleeding, but it wasn't enough. Caprice passed away just minutes after her daughter's birth, leaving Adrian a grieving single parent. While middle names aren't all that common within the walls, Adrian wanted to honor his wife in some way with his daughter's name. However, they'd already agreed on the name Bria. It was a name his wife fell in love with from the moment she heard it, and he certainly wasn't about to change it. Thus, she was given her mother's name as her middle name, allowing Adrian to honor both his wife's wish and her legacy.
Bria's biggest insecurities are tied to her appearance. When she was 8 years old, there was an unfortunate accident at her father's shop that resulted in a fire. In her attempt to escape, she fell in, sustaining severe burns to her left arm, chest, neck, back, head, and the left side of her face. Her recovery was long, arduous, and painful in more ways than once, but eventually, her wounds healed, leaving her with major scarring on the aforementioned areas. Her left eyebrow, in addition to the hair on the patch of her head with scarring, grew back white due to the severity of her burns. Because of the accident, she struggles with sensitivity in her scars. Some areas are numb, while others are hypersensitive and uncomfortable or painful to the touch. As she grew, Bria became accustomed to dealing with the pain, and while it makes many tasks uncomfortable, she doesn't let that stop her. As well as her scars, she was born with a condition called heterochromia (two different eye colors). Her right eye is hazel (the same color as her dad's), and her left eye is green (the same color as her mom's). She jokes that, depending on what side you're looking at her from, you're seeing two different people. Sheβs worn an eyepatch over her left eye ever since her scars fully healed, and she only takes it off to bathe or sleep, when she knows sheβll be alone. Originally, she only wore the eyepatch to help with photosensitivity (a result of the accident). But as she got older, she found comfort in knowing nobody could tell she had two different eye colors, as it would only make her "more of a freak" in the eyes of others. After she returned to school, she was dubbed the "ugly duckling" by her peers, eliciting snickers and whispers tinged with snide comments as she passed other students in the hallway. The bullying crushed Bria's self-esteem, and it would be a very, very long time before even a little bit began to come back.
Adrian was the best dad he could be, caring for his daughter while running his small produce shop (with what he grew in their garden) to help keep them afloat. In addition to selling produce, he was also a breadmaker, which required him to rise before the crack of dawn, wake his daughter up, get her ready, and bring her along. She'd sit at a table in the corner while he worked, drawing pictures to put on the walls, asking questions about how bread gets so "puffy," and demanding to try the fresh tomatoes he just placed on the shelves. Once she was old enough to start school, she'd wait with him in the mornings until she needed to head off, snagging a snack to munch on during her walk. The two of them were extremely close, and for a few years after her accident, Bria felt like her dad was her only friend--the only person who understood her, cared about her, and wanted to see her succeed. She went to him with anything and everything, even the awkward things that most teenage girls wouldn't dare bring up to their dads. He'd often remind her that her appearance is the least interesting thing about her, and while it (the bullying she received at school) felt permanent, it would fade with time.
Since it's also the day she lost her mom, Bria has a strange relationship with her birthday. When she was young, her father would do something to celebrate with her, which usually involved baking a cake, gifting her something small and sentimental, and closing his shop for the day to spend time with his daughter doing whatever she wanted. However, once she got old enough to understand death & what happened to her mother, she didn't want to celebrate anymore. She barely tolerated any mention of it, and as much as it stung at first, her father respected her wishes. She doesn't like to disclose her birthday to new people, as she doesn't want them getting any ideas or planning anything, even if it's all good intentions. She's said before, "I may be alive, but I'm the reason my mom is not."
Bria grew up in the same neighborhood of Shiganshina as Eren and Mikasa, and despite being ostracized by other kids her age, the two of them, along with Armin, deemed her the "cool girl." She'd often babysit Eren when Carla needed to run errands (or just needed a break) and Grisha was away. One of Bria's passions is botany, and she loved rambling on about different facts, reading books, and sharing her doodles with the kids (mostly Armin lol). She also had a cat named Lady, a grey tabby with a white-tipped tail that her father found as a kitten behind his shop one day, small and shaken and hungry. Bria was around 4 at the time, and she chose the name Lady after her father kept referring to her as "a little lady." She followed Bria all over the house, rubbing up against her legs at every free moment and sleeping in bed next to her. Lady became her best friend, providing her comfort when bullying from the kids at school became too much to handle.
When Wall Maria fell, Bria was 17, almost 18 years old. She had plans to work more at her father's shop and continue studying plants, hopeful that one day, she could turn that passion for learning into a career. She was walking back home from an apothecary, a bundle of herbs in a basket on her arm and her backpack filled with books, a sketchbook, and pencils for an afternoon of doodling. But soon, chaos erupted, and her peaceful walk turned into a run for her life. Rather than continuing toward home, she changed directions, throwing her basket to the ground and sprinting as fast as her legs would allow her to her father's shop, where he'd been all day. However, when she arrived, the place was in shambles, the roof caved in and the foundation barely holding on. As Adrian tried to stumble out the front door, limping on an injured leg, he made eye contact with his daughter, watching as she desperately tried to reach him, right before he was scooped up by a titan. Bria stumbled, tripping over her own two feet & falling back, watching in horror as her father shouted for her to run, to get away and find somewhere safe. And so, despite the fear that nearly paralyzed her, she did. She rolled over, pushed herself back to her feet, and ran. She screamed, she cried, but she kept moving. When she arrived back at her home, she saw blood and a white-tipped tail sticking out from under a piece of wood, and she knew Lady was gone. As tears stung her eyes, she kept moving, finding Eren and Mikasa attempting to pull Carla out from under the rubble. She stopped and tried to help, though she knew their efforts were futile, and when Hannes arrived and finally pulled Eren and Mikasa away, she ran with them, forcing herself to keep her eyes ahead and not turn back as Eren screamed for his mother. She made it onto the boat with them, and along with Armin, she became responsible for the three of them.
When she was around 19/20 years old, she was working at a bakery, and the owner had asked her to close up shop alone as they had a family matter to attend to. Bria didn't mind, as she'd done it many times before, and it'd been a slow day, so she figured it would be a slow night too. Just before close, a man came in, and given that it was dark, she wasn't able to see his features. He asked some questions about the bread, if different flavors of cake could be made, etc. Bria wrapped up her work, explaining that they were unfortunately closed now & he could come back in the morning. One of her strengths is her intuition, and she had a small but strong voice in the back of her head telling her to run from the moment he walked in the door. And as she tried to usher him out and lock the door, he attacked, and she was SA'd in complete darkness. He told her nobody would believe her because why would someone who "looked like that" ever attract someone's attention? He left right after, and she never got a glimpse of his face. She only knew his voice, and that voice would haunt her dreams for years to come. After the assault, Bria tried to piece herself back together. She didn't tell anyone--not Mikasa, not Eren, nobody. But she was different. She was jumpy, wary, constantly looking back over her shoulder and cautious of any man she didn't know (until they'd speak & she wouldn't recognize his voice). The kids would ask if she was okay, and she'd insist that she was. She didn't want anyone to see her as weak, disgusting, damaged, or, like the man had said, just not believe her at all. She also didn't want any of them feeling like they had to seek revenge for her or pity her, so she kept quiet, moving through life with an unbearable weight on her shoulders.
One afternoon, Bria was doing some doodling, taking a break from cleaning around the house. She'd been thinking on and off for weeks about what she wanted to do with her life, and while she originally planned to do something with her love for plants, things had changed. More than anything, she wanted to be strong, a fighter, a force to be reckoned with. She wanted to feel powerful. She wanted to make sure no one could take advantage of her like that ever again. So, alongside Eren, Armin, and Mikasa, she chose to join the military, already set on being a Scout. While she felt a bit out of place among so many kids, she became somewhat of a big sister to many of them, growing close with Historia (Christa at the time) and Sasha. She graduated second to Mikasa, strong and fast and often underestimated due to her size. But one thing was for sure--she would never allow someone to hurt her without putting up a fight.
At 23, Bria first met Levi while struggling to help pull Eren from his Titan form after he blocked the hole in Wall Rose. When they (her, Armin, Eren, and Mikasa) were cornered by titans, Levi swept in, single-handedly taking them out and letting out quartet walk away with all of their limbs in tact. She'd heard mentions of this "Captain Levi" before, of just how lethal he was, but to see it with her very eyes was something else entirely. It a little frightening, but more than anything, it was impressive. And attractive. One of the first things she noticed about Levi, and appreciated about him, was that he treated her just like any other Survey Corps member. He didn't look at her funny, didn't comment on her appearance, didn't treat her as any less capable than anyone else. After everything she'd been through, after all of the harassment and stares that bordered on something between uncertainty and fear, it was refreshing to be treated like a person. Like one of the other Scouts. Like she was normal. That realization was the first time she felt the faint flitter of butterflies in the pit of her stomach, but it wasnβt just the buddings of some βsome silly little crush.β It was anxiety coupled with an avalanche of βwhat-ifβs.β What if this βsilly little crushβ turned into something more? Into real feelings? What if someone found out? What if he found out? And what if, despite him treating her the same as all the other Scouts, it was all just a facade? But sheβd eventually learn that Levi is drastically different than any man sheβd come across before.
