On your note "SMT’s future is as guaranteed as it’s ever been. It’s a series that now crosses the million-seller mark. Just because one product sells gangbusters doesn’t mean you completely ignore the other one that “only” sells extremely well."... It's a bit weird how that happened with zero fanfare from ATLUS. Internally there seems to be very little interest in SMT. They got Maniax Team developing P3R port for Switch 2 and do all kind of menial tasks for P-Studio and Studio Zero.
Oh, there's fanfare, it's just become so ordinary with SMT and Persona, you might not even notice it anymore: Special Sales Milestone illustrations!
The SMT5 series got these:
Source 1, source 2
Persona 3 Reload received this Soejima illustration for 3 million sales:
Of course, SMT is still overshadowed by Persona at every turn, as it continues winning the Megaten "mindshare" war. Take a look at this I just chanced upon on the old wiki while looking for these illustrations:
No SMT game is a top trender on that wiki; apparently even P1 is getting more attention than anything SMT--even OG P4. I wonder what metrics are used to determine if something is trending.
hi eirikr! Hope you're doing well. recently reread your JJCAT writeup after having the pleasure to expose my friends to Maniacs' love of including it into mainline games. Since that was written before V and V:V released, I was curious if you have done any writing on the matter for the new entry.
Hey! Yes, I'm doing well, thanks for asking.
I honestly didn't see anything that set off my JJCAT radar when I played both of those games--and I was actively looking for it.
The closest both come is that Koshimizu is a bit of a "rah rah Nippon" weirdo. Totally different converesation though, and not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. It's far less insidious than SMT4's Ikebukuro quest.
I'm working on a couple new articles, believe it or not, and the one no one will see coming (the other few will care about, maybe). My goal is to get the intros for both written for the next Knowledge Drop (so, by the end of this month)!
