The streetlamps barely cut through the thick mist tonight. Down on the slick cobblestones, every footstep carries a quiet weight, like the whole city went to sleep and left only the ghosts and late-night thinkers behind.

It’s well past midnight. The air tastes like cold rain and old tobacco, and somewhere down a narrow alley, a low brass melody leaks through a basement door, wrapping the cold air in a smoky, melancholic warmth. It’s that exact kind of lonely where you don’t actually want company—you just want to lose yourself in the dark for a little while.
