Full script below: Smarter in Seconds: The Thanksgiving Myth Kara: Do you know why Tisquantum (aka Squanto) spoke English? It’s because he was held prisoner in Spain and England following raids by European invaders. Anthony: Enough whitewashed history. It’s time for the truth. Kara: The Wampanoag People, my people, did not first encounter Europeans in 1620, they had trafficked and enslaved us as early as 1524.  Penny: It is true that my people extended aid to the Pilgrims but that kindness and humanity was not returned to us. Shana: During King Philip’s War the English settlers attempted genocide, killing thousands of Indigenous peoples. Kara: Then the invaders in Plymouth and Massachusetts celebrated their violent “victory” with a feast. A thanksgiving feast.
