can i just say something?
everyone in the universe of deus ex has a problem - whether it’s about their health, their views on society, whatever.
duncan macready is among these people. obviously.
macready - head of tf29′s counter-terrorism’s division. at first glance, he looks like a cocky british guy who doesn’t really seem to give a shit. however, once you start to learn his character, you think “yeah, he’s an alright bloke.”
one thing that makes this particular person stand out from the rest of the crowd in tf29 is his very unsubtle hate for augmented people. a lot of players look at him and go “what’s your bloody problem?” (i admit, this was me when i first talked to him back in hq).
but then i realised - put him with the rest of society, and you start to realise that he’s not as big of a dick as many put him to be.
this guy has a right to be angry. he, along with billions of other people, had a first-hand experience of augmented people going “skitzo”. macready never got an explanation as to why they went berserk, so he hated them even more. he has no idea about the illuminati’s involvement with the aug incident.
on the day of the incident, he lost three good men on his team.” oh but everyone lost somebody, he’s just a sook and has issues.” n o.
in an optional conversation with adam, macready never mentioned how close he was with any of them. one of them could have been his best friend. he could’ve actually been mates with augmented people. he truly could have thought them no different to any other human being, even if he didn’t get augged himself.
but, like everyone else in deus ex’s society, macready was left in the shadows and was left to make the assumptions for himself.
