Today I learned of the existence of mighty Slogra and deadly Gaibon, but I did not learn which is which so this comic only has a 50% chance of being accurate.
Found some Slogras chillin’
Sonic Genesis' by Slogra (MS Hack) What if Sonic 1 on the Master System was more based on the Mega Drive game? A fantastic visual Master System hack! https://www.smspower.org/forums/18542-SonicGenesisForMasterSystemV102?start=200#121192
So I finally realized who Raven Beak’s face reminded me of.

the Death Bat from Castlevania: The Adventure:

DAY 16 - WILD
Best wild couple of Castlevania 😂
Slogra’s bird brain
For some reason I got to thinking about Castlevania favorite Slogra’s Japanese name, Berrigan / ベリガン. Specifically, how odd it seems. The Castlevania wiki surmises that Berrigan comes from the name of an activist named Berrigan. Even though that seems completely bogus, it’s really the only notable lead for the name “Berrigan.”
So I asked a friend living in Japan about it and he asked some other Japanese people he knows. They all came to the same conclusion, that it’s a pun on ペリカン (perikan): pelican. I wouldn’t discount something to do with a tokusatsu bird monster, either.
Here’s the official SCIV art. The head and bill might not be a perfect match for a pelican’s, but that might not matter much for the sake of a jokey pun. Think Japanese Pokemon names.
Anyway, not stating this as a fact but certainly a better theory for “Berrigan” than what we’ve had previously. “Slogra” itself, though? For the localization that gave us “Ton-a-rok,” “Lix-yew-up,” and Paula Abghoul and Fred Askare, anything is possible.
