I’M GLADYOU ASKED <3 ok so, to be fair, the new novel was actually written in 2016for Nanowrimo. I rewrote it entirely in 2017 and then edited it for months andfinished a draft by the end of the year. And then edited the whole thing againin 2018, and since it went from a 200k words monster to a 100k smaller monster,I’m counting it as being written in 2018 too.

Srsly thisthing took SO MANY ROUNDS OF REVISION IT ATE MY LIFE and I adore it. I’m fondof all my novels, but this one is the closest to my heart.

The one Irewrote it is the Quilombo da Rainha! My agent read the first version and askedfor some tweaking and the tweaking involved changing, like, everything. Almostall of it.

So it’s awhole different book now. I really hope the thing gets published, because itcame back from the dead to HAUNT ME.

IT’S SO DAMN HARD!!!! I HAVE TOO MUCH LOVE FOR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS TO CHOSE ONLY 10!!!!

I’ll list 10, but I’ll probably remember someone in 5 minutes and regret, so this isn’t a definitive list…

1.     Fa Mulan (Mulan) – She was probably the first fictional character to take a spot in my life. I saw myself in her. I was never good in typical feminine things, but I had top grades and was good in sports. To see Mulan being like me and having a hard time being typically feminine but having a bright mind, a good heart and a strong body, that was the world…

2.     Morticia Addams (Addams Family) – My childhood DIVA!!!  My nowadays DIVA!!!

3.     Haku (Naruto) – I don’t even like Naruto anymore, haven’t for a long, LONG time, but Haku’s still one of the most outstanding characters ever for me. I’m weak for tragedies, and to see a kid suffer so much and still remain good and pure in his heart… He was also the one to get me in this black hole called fandom life… Never got out…

4.     Severus Snape (Harry Potter) – Yes, I love him, he was always my favorite character, with every flaw of his. He fucked up and spent his whole life trying to atone. I’m not saying he’s the most perfect and healthy man on earth, HE’S NOT, but he’s human, and has the greatest resilience and willpower EVER. Harry Potter in general was a REALLY big thing in my life. I met some of my best friends because of Harry Potter and Snape in particular. I don’t know who I’d be without HP and Severus…

5.     Éowyn (The Lord of the Rings) – Another one I identified myself with. Life had expectations for me but I really wanted to be a rider of Rohan free. She did it, and so did I, in some ways.

6.     Integra Hellsing (Hellsing) – A inspiration. She lived in a world of monsters and machines, and she conquered them all. She was “just a simple human” and she outlived the darkest hour. She had confidence, she kept her word, she rebuilt her empire from the ashes. No task was too great a task.

7.     Captain Hook (Peter Pan) – Peter Pan was always my favorite fairy tale. At first I liked Hook cause he was a Pirate, cool! Then he was the villain, cool!! Then he was HOT, cool!!! And then he was a human, and that was the best. He was present in my whole life and as I grew up, I got a totally new reading of his character, and it only made him more special.

8.     Rumpelstiltskin (Once Upon a Time) – I just wanted to love him. I met Rumple as an adult, and I understood the depth of his suffering the whole time. I just wanted him to be happy. I can’t imagine someone who was hated by himself and by society for hundreds and hundreds of years, who self-sabotages himself at any given chance, who suffered abuse from his childhood to his dying bed and still loved so truly and deeply…

9.     Lagertha (Vikings) – She’s a farmer, she’s a shieldmaiden, she’s a warrior, she’s a mother, she’s an earl, she’s her own woman, she’s caring for others, she’s a diplomat, she takes no shit. I don’t care if I’m already a grown up, I WANT TO BE LIKE HER WHEN I GROW UP!

10.  Garnet (Steven Universe) – She’s the most recent and my current love! She’s the personification of love! Of a healthy, stable relationship. She’s a gay sentient rock from space, made of the true love of two tiny alien lesbians, who chose the form of a super tall, super strong, black, beautiful woman, who fought a war and is raising a marvelous loving boy. She’s much more than all of that. Garnet’s love in its truest, best and most beautiful form. Aaaaaaand she sent me back to my sketchbooks!

Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?

It's funny, because just the other day I was making a list of those to post, just for kicks. I wanted to write about all the wars we fought with our neighbors, and it never worked. I even tried to start one, and it just... I don't know. I can't decide if I want it to be 1st POV or 3rd (once I tried it in letter format), if it should be dramatic or funny or what and if it should include that weird threesome porn scene in the middle of a battle (it so totally should). The stupid thing just won't come.

Part of the problem is that the subject is super complex, but I don't knoooooooooooooow /whines
