I can tell these two are immature because despite having dapper blue streaks on their heads (unlike totally BABY herons), they are still growing in their mature breeding-display quills -- the short ivory brush-strokes where a regal ruff will go, down and around their necks.

WE HAVE A NEW BIRD!!!!! 🐦❤️ This Dark Eyed Junco has scoped out our patio and this will be the second night I've noticed him sleeping. He flew in around 6:50 and was making a lot of noise asking me to turn down the television volume which I did. 😂 Then he settled on the string of lights and fell asleep. All I could see after the sun went down further was his white little bottom half. Oh, guys, I'm so happy! We had a nest of baby birds that didn't make it from Newcastle disease (we believe) and so we removed the nest. I really hope that they build a new one this spring that will produce healthy babies that will make it out of the nest as healthy juveniles. 🙏❤️🌷🐣🌸
