Ruby: Teenage rebellion!

    ragged breaths ripped from his chest as mercury hurried between houses, down alleys, weaving among the atlesian tech -- doing his best to avoid being seen.  every so often, he’d make eye contact with one of the citizens of atlas, but before they could act, he was gone.  the blood on his clothes and the unconscious emerald in his arms were sure to draw attention, and they didn’t have long before the entire atlesian army was looking for them -- and he wasn’t even sure if emerald was going to make it.

    the thought made his stomach drop, and despite the pain he felt, mercury kept going.   he didn’t have time to dwell on it.   it wouldn’t matter if they were caught.   

   mercury tugged emerald a little tighter against his body, narrowly avoiding a run-in with an armed huntsman, ducking behind a high-tech inn to catch his breath.   when he looked up, steel gaze was met with silver, a familiar face coming into view as she stepped out into the quiet parking lot.   neither made a move.   what was she doing here, of all places, of all alleys?   for a moment, he was poised to run, chest rising and falling with rapid breaths.   the next, he was holding emerald out towards ruby in a desperate gesture, voice hoarse as he pleaded.
