The way copyright works is that you cannot publish a copyrighted work. if you buy a copy of a published work, you are free to resell it. If you take a copyrighted work, and format shift it, that is not considered publication, so long as you destroy the original.
Anthropic AI is buying up books from across the world, and destructively digitizing them to feed them to to the AI.
Basically Mortal Engines level of comicbook villainy.
