This map shows what the city of Port Royal looked like before the earthquake of 1692. Prior to the earthquake, Port Royal was English base that supported the buccaneer raiders who sacked Spanish shipping and colonies. The island of Jamaica was initially the property of Spain until a failed attack on Cuba lead English privateers to occupy Jamaica instead. The famous privateer Henry Morgan was burried in Port Royal after his death on August 25, 1688. Unfortunately, his grave was lost during the destruction of the city.

#Repost @bragisbeard ・・・ •The Jolly Roger Flag• Far from being ‘jolly’ this was actually the name used to signify any pirate flag during the 1700’s. The image I’ve drawn here is inspired by John Rackham aka ‘Calico Jack’s’ Flag. ‘Jack’ was a nickname for John and ‘Calico’ because of the calico clothing he liked to wear. Rackham ended up sailing along side while having romantic involvement with the pirate Anne Bonny. They also had the pirate Mary Read sail with them.
