Steroids: Good or Bad for Skin? | Aiconic Health
Steroids are a very important pillar of medicine- allopathy and other alternate schools of medicine. All steroids are not of the same strength or potency- some are too mild and some are very strong. They are prescribed by doctors for specific conditions, in skin they are given for various inflammatory, allergic and autoimmune skin diseases. However, the problem with steroids occur when they are used inadvertently without a doctor’s prescription, for a long period, at a higher dose and for a wrong disease like infections. In such cases, steroid related side-effects start to show up, some of which can be serious. So, if your clinician has accurately diagnosed your disease and has given you steroid injections or pills or creams to control the disease, you can safely use them as per prescription. A lot of internet-acquired information is not appropriate and its always better to discuss with your doctor than trust internet information blindly. Also, when you buy a cream OTC, on recommendation of a non-medical practitioner, check the ingredients and avoid them if it contains steroids.
