On the other hand, I see a lot of people who prefer dogs over cats say that they do in fact *hate cats*. Like, passionately hating them, because they're selfish or uncaring or aloof or irritable or prone to scratching. Theyre a moral failing of a companion for whatever reason.

Now, hating an animal because of a traumatic experience is perfectly reasonable. I'd never tell someone who hated cats or dogs because they were violently attacked by on that they were wrong. And I do know that people have horrible experiences with dogs all the time, by nature of their varied breeds and what they were created to do. And yet I dont hear cat people say they hate dogs for this reason.

Ive never heard someone who hated cats say they hated them because they were traumatically emotionally or physically harmed by one. They'll complain that cats scratch them when they pet them, or run away from them, but thats it. And yet, I've heard people **hate** cats. Like, really hate them. I've heard someone say *the cats themselves* are the hateful ones.

Is it just because they're "aloof", which is not even always true? Dogs are seen often as automatically trusting and loyal etc, even when THAT is not always true. Cats are seen as not automatically trusting or loving or caring about you, and so people really dislike cats, or even hate them because this living creature didnt automatically accept you as safe. Theyre so unwilling to accept that they have to prove themselves, especially to adult cats theyre unfamilial with. It irritates me when people are so used to the affection of a dog that they expect it from every pet animal.
