Fair warning this fic may never ever be finished, but I love it anyway.

It was a simple video with a simple caption. The camera never moved through the entirety of Jaskier's upbeat acoustic cover of "Call Me Maybe", except at the very end when it appeared to be knocked over by someone behind it, the last shots being sideways as the music faded, as Jaskier ran up, laughing, and righted it. The video cut between various shots of Jaskier dancing with the kids in various combinations, on various pieces of furniture. There were a few seconds that included Yen, and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment where every one of them were dancing around Geralt, sitting stoically on the sofa, unmoving. The caption, other than the requisite "Call Me Maybe is copyrighted" and so on, simply read "Family dance party!"

It was never meant for a large audience. Jaskier never expected anything big to come of a video that was nothing but a bunch of people any strangers wouldn't even know dancing around like idiots to a cover of a pop song that hadn't been big news in nearly a decade.

So like, this is just canon, right? 😜

But no so like. there is an AU I have with my partners that none of us will ever write, modern AU, and they’re both working a career they absolutely despise but needed to take for reasons years ago, and they basically have these masks they have to get through the day. They get partnered up bc they’re both Problem Children, and Jaskier thinks Yen is an ice queen and a bitch, and Yen thinks Jaskier’s an asshole with an anger management problem, and both of them are miserable unhappy bastards. 

Except Yen does side work (to save money) as an online domme and Jaskier’s just y’know looking around and finds her and recognizes her one day, and is like “...uh I found your.  Side gig?” and she’s like “ARE YOU BLACKMAILING ME?” and he’s like “NO I’M JUST LETTING YOU KNOW???” and they actually start to get to know each other outside work and Yen can still be a bitch but she’s got a lot of feelings and can be surprisingly tender when she wants to be, and Jaskier can still be an asshole, but he also smiles just so much, and sings and plays music and has a patreon that makes him a whole $35/month.
