Meme a Day 7/17
It's a fun game and free, but my memes tend to get more people involved than SJG does on peak days. And my memes suck

New icon because Soviet Jump game is good and this is the first thing I’ve drawn in ages and ages
I love Triplanetary. It’s almost 50 years old and the ship movement is damn near perfect.
there’s this uncomfortable trend i’ve noticed among my friends who are cis and/or het allies where they’re overall good allies, ready to learn, ready to defend, ready to understand, but they fundamentally don’t understand where the line is, and often take a “blanket” approach to their allyship without thinking critically about what conversations they should or shouldn’t get involved in.
allies that shine light on oppression and help to educate other allies or potential allies are really valuable because they do a lot of “lgbt 101” that can be 10x more emotionally taxing for lgbt people, however, a lot of allies then take this as a free pass to get involved in any lgbt discussion, including intracommunity issues. allies shouldn’t be involved in the intersection between the gay community and transphobia. allies shouldn’t talk about the lgbt community’s issues with racism. when lgbt people point the finger at each other and say “we need to shape up” it’s community betterment. when cishet people point the finger at us and say “here’s an issue with your community”, it’s our oppressors talking about something they both don’t fully understand, and have no stake in. it’s them telling us “do better” with only half the facts and none of the experiences.
this also ties into cis and/or het allies sharing stories of tragedies that happen to our community. of course, our tragedies should not be met with silence, but there needs to be an understanding between allies that they can never feel our pain the way we feel our pain. they should not talk over our voices. they should not pretend that this cuts as deep for them as it does for us. allies amplify our voices. they are our megaphones in a world that wants us to be silent.
it’s important for overeager allies to realize their role in our fight. there are times when it’s appropriate for them to be on the front lines, and there are times when they need to be at an arm’s length. certain issues are intra-lgbt and therefore, by definition, don’t concern allies.
