First Vocal Class - Achievement Unlocked.
I had an opportunity to sign up for a group vocal class for a very reasonable fee with reputable teacher, so I took it. I missed the first two sessions of this weekly class because I was going through Hellmonth October 2025 and there just no way to leave the office early enough to do this evening class. But I finally went (was a bit late but still) and it was a good time!

Singing whistle notes is so fun! If you never tried it, do it! I truly believe, anyone can sing! You just need time and motivation!
PLEASE REBLOG!
Figured I'd post this flyer again without it being tied to any specific fandom. As a reminder, I am a freelance voice teacher working to get students so please refer to the flyer with any questions or any interest. I am also willing to give one free trial lesson to see if you'd be willing to do them long-term.
current songs I am working on in my lessons:
Magnetic Fields' The Book of Love. Status: Completed! I can sing this one without real issues. It's basically a warm-up song for my lower register.
Crash Test Dummiest' Mmmmm. Status: Completed! Pulled this one out at karaoke and sounded great. Another song in my back pocket. Easy.
Orville Peck's Daytona Sand. Status: In Progress. I've got the notes locked down on this one, but the rhythm on this song is *hard* and not intuitive. My instructor gave me a lot of hand motions to do along with the lyrics to try and free me up and get me out of my head. Workin on it! Will continue to revisit.
Randy Travis' Forever and Ever Amen. Status: New song! Did a run through of it this week, felt decent and doable. This is an 'easy' song for us to work on right now. Another one to have in my arsenal soon.
Lyle Lovett's If I Had a Boat. Status: In the queue! I'll move on to this next after I've mastered Forever and Ever Amen.
Sufjan Steven's For the Windows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti. Status: In the queue! The highest notes in this song Sufjan does in his head voice, and I can reach them in my head voice too. There's a lot of shifting between head and chest right in the range that I need to be working on moving through more elegantly, so this one will be a nice challenge -- not of my range, but of my fluidity? Continuity of parts of the voice? Whatever thats called?

I mean, when the teacher suggests we sing a Dylan song... what should a poor girl do? :-D "Do you know the song? "she asked, and I could tell her that I am a Dylan fan, and I love the song I shall be released.
I don't think this first singing and piano lesson could have been any better. :-) And when I was trying out the piano, she could tell me that I was the best student she had had to get those warming up pieces for the fingers correct at the first time and without so much struggle. :-) I'll bet she tells every student that, but it worked. I felt like a star right away. LOL
And I just dig the teacher. She is very laid back and cool and I think I will learn a lot and she likes all kinds of music.
Re-post from 10 years ago.
So I started playing the Ukulele. So far so hard, but what's harder than I expected is trying to sing along. I can't sing. So I'm thinking of taking a few singing lessons. (All for my own amusement.) However, they scare the shit out of me. Ironically that should be more reason to take them. But I'm not sure. So here we go.
should I take singing lessons?
