Visited our Team Singapore sailors at Langkawi. As there was a storm, the races which had started earlier in the morning had to be halted. Nonetheless, our sailors were in high spirits and shared with me their racing experiences at the SEA Games 2017. To date, our sailing contingent has won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals! Congratulations to Team Singapore sailors Elisa Yukie Yokoyama and Cheryl Teo who won Gold in the Women's 470 event yesterday. The winner for the sailing events is decided over many days of competition, so the race is a test of physical and mental endurance. This victory is extra sweet for the duo, as Yukie had earlier sustained an injury from a boat accident a month ago (she could not lift her right hand beyond 90 degrees). But thanks to the support from the @nysi_sg and @singaporesportsinstitute team, she was able to recover in time for the Games. During the competition, Yukie did not let her past injury affect her performance. And through close team work with Cheryl, they secured the Gold for Singapore, against Malaysia, the defending champions. Well done, Yukie, Cheryl and all of our sailors for your hard work. We are proud of you! #OneTeamSG #SEAGames2017 #SingaporeSailing (at Langkawi)
