#sing 3

Sing 3 is in active development at Illumination and is one of few upcoming projects currently getting ‘tremendous amount of attention’ at the studio.

In an interview with The Collider, Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri gives updates on the studio’s upcoming projects. One of those being the status on Sing 3.

When asked about the status on film, Meledandri had this to say:

I don't fully know if this is legit or not

But

There's a chance we might have some release dates already

It’s basically like that one episode from mlp where Applejack gets reunited with an old friend of hers from summer camp but she’s been changed into a completely different person by her manager. After the gang find out they are invited to be a part of this survival show battle of the bands thing, they end up looking up who’s going to be a part of it and Gunther recognizes the name of his old friend from home, recounting how they were inseparable best friends growing up before circumstances led to them losing touch. Gunther being excited at the prospect of reconnecting with them, only to get to the studio where the shows being filmed and finding them to just be a completely different person.

Here are the reasons I will not spend money or time in Sing 3.

I have no concern about the stories of the lives of Buster Moon, Ash, the gorillas, the pigs, the elephants, Clay Calloway, Nooshy, the Crystals, the Noodlemans, or the mice. In fact, I didn't really care about the first sequel to begin with; I just saw it because I was seduced by the visual spectacle and because I enjoyed the first one before a certain Saluki existed.

Despicable Me 4 pretty much killed any lingering faith I had in any future Illumination sequel or spin-off.

It'll be another tiresome repeat of everyone being meaner to the main characters than they necessary, Meena being a nervous crybaby, famous and rich animals acting entitled, Gunther being shoved in the audiences' faces and eardrums, and Buster and his friends committing crimes to succeed because movies dictate that "crimes is coooool".

One way or another, Suki is bound to be done dirty. She'll either not return without even so much as a mention, be flanderized just so the audience can like Buster and the others more (again), or be forced into a cringey pairing that doesn't do her justice. I could stand her being left out just to be saved for a better movie, but sadly, Illumination's not that clever or caring.

Who's even invested in another anthro character concert film? I'd rather see Suki and other cartoon characters travel to space or be in a Tron/Ready Player One-type adventure.
