omg yes yes yes I love this so much but I'm gonna twist it just a little bit for max drama (also bc if you guys didn't know yet history is a huge part of my major, I'm a huge history nerd, I love it sm) and make periwinkle, annie's lady in waiting bc they usually were the ones with a much more personal relationship with princess (etc) they were serving and bc of added drama I have cooked up which we will get too 🫣

anyways you're the daughter of a once prestigious noble family that has been backsliding mostly due to your father's spending but when you're younger your father manages to secure you a position as princess annie's companion and confidante, technically she has a couple, but you had always been by far her favorite (because she has a crush on you). she's also always been mentally on a tightrope so even when your fathers position is becoming shakier, annies father aka the king of your small kingdom, knows his daughter might have an actual breakdown if he were to tear you both apart and he does not have enough children to waste the political pawn he sees annie as by locking her away or sending her to a nunnery. as far as he is concerned a future husband can deal with that. little does he know that as you and annie became older you became secret lovers.

for years her father has been working on an alliance between him and a much wealthier kingdom where prince finnick is the heir, a betrothal offer that goes back and forth, and finally when annie is 19 the marriage deal comes to an agreement and annie is supposed to leave and travel across the sea to the kingdom of her betrothed (a marriage by proxy happens before she even leave though ofc ofc)

anyways annie is allowed one lady to take with her so of course she takes you and she despises the idea of getting married to this unknown prince. she can already see him in her head as arrogant and egotistical, in fact she wants to run away with you and live in a cottage in the countryside somewhere. but you don't let her because you are very aware of the consequences that could befall either of you if you were caught.

so you go with her, keep her calm (brushing her hair and singing songs to her) and gossip about all the new courts fashions together and the ladies who are rude to either of you. plus a duo amongst the new ladies of this court she's been assigned, and they all hate you because she won't give any of them a chance to be her top confidante.

but then there's prince finnick and the first thing that strikes you is that yes he is the tiniest bit arrogant but just enough for it to almost seem like a farce if you look close enough, he's charming, but he's kind overall and so handsome. in a way that makes your heart flutter, and then makes you angry because annie feels the same way. of course you don't verbalize you feel any sort of attraction to him but when you see annie soften about him you know, and you start fearing that whatever you and annie have must actually be coming to an end.

but annie still rarely goes anywhere without you specifically right by her side and finnick can tell it makes her anxious to be without you so most of his conversations and interactions before the wedding even happens are with both of you. and damn him if he doesn't feel something sparking in him for both of you. and he can also tell so quickly on that with how close the two of you, the way you two look at each other, there is something much more intimate happening between the two of you, although he doesn't say it out loud.

and then the wedding day is upon you all and annie is kind of excited because part of her does have feelings, but she also feels like she's betraying you for feeling that way at all so she's giddy and then crying. and you can't tell if you're upset about her marrying someone else or if you're also upset that you want him too. and finnick has no idea why he wants you both and also feels guilty for feeling like he's breaking up whatever secret is transpiring between you and annie. it's all so terribly confusing for all parties involved.

you spend the ceremony trying not to cry but not knowing what you're crying about but a huge part of you is realizing so many of those nights where it was just you and annie will be over now if not completely gone if she really falls in love with him and discards you completely.

there's festivities afterwards and so much dancing during which finnick of course dances with annie and during which tries to imply to her that he knows what's going on but that he isn't going to tell or stop either of you and poor guy cannot read the vibe annie is giving off about that and so he tries again with you when dancing partners switch and you also give off strange, unreadable vibes. and he's thinking like I'm just trying to help because I can tell they're in love but also I feel like I'm falling for both of them. but little does he know both you and annie's vibes are weird because you want to continue on with each other, but also both want him, and additionally you feel guilty about that because he's annie's husband now and they're literally gonna be king and queen someday.

so that night, finnick goes to annie's chambers bc consumation ✨️ so you go to leave and he's like no no no stay. and everyone's so confused but bro just wants to talk this out. so there's a long, awkward conversation where basically everyone avoids saying they're point as long as possible and just keeps dancing around the central point of everyone wanting each other until literally over half an hour has passed before they realize this literally has the easiest solution of just all being together even if you do have to stay a secret.

so in a sense everything should be fine, until your father shows up because now you are lady in waiting to a future queen and in this new kingdom, so all he can see are opportunities to move you up as his pawn in society. so he starts trying to maneuver a powerful marriage between you and some random nobleman and you are freaking out because, one, if you get married, the relationship with finnick and annie would have to end until he became king which could be years and years because a new husband could just send you to a country house or even a nunnery if it offended his sensibilities. two, you'd have less time for them more than likely. and three, rumors have begun to spread that you're not virtuous, that you're sleeping with the prince, and therefore sullying your worth as a "pure, desirable bride" which gives your father less "good" options for husband's.

so you're freaking out, and then annie freaks out, and finnick is freaking out too. trying to think a way out of this. annie's plan is that you should get married and continue on the way you are regardless and then if your new husband tries to say anything about his suspicions, finnick convinces the king to make this hypothetical new husband keep his mouth shut and nod, pay him off. but finnick knows that won't work on his father. he does have a solution many royal man have taken, that he thought he would never take, and technically he's not really doing it because annie is aware and involved but also he knows historically it has, and for you, cause tons of slander and defamation of your character. that you would be surrounded by snide remarks and hateful gossip...which is by naming you to be his official royal mistress (a la the French bc this is a fictional royal au of whatever making I want it to be 😤)

this would on the plus side mean he would be able to be publicly seen with you and gift you things, but also you'd be so widely hated since people wouldn't understand that you loved annie too. and finnick is very reluctant to put you through that sort of defamation of character. eventually thought after you all exhaust ideas he goes to his father and tells him he plans to make you his official mistress, and asks him to somehow get your father away (idc that historically many mistresses were married and even given advantageous marriages, not in this universe 😤) so finnick's father, as a man with his own royal mistress, does just that, and your father is actually more pleased for you to be a future kings mistress because it is a title with a lot of prestige even if it's scandalous.

of course there is so much scandal and hate about you, but you, finnick, and annie are happy and that's all that counts. people do get a little suspicious of how whenever annie is "pregnant" you both go off to another royal house in the country or by the sea with just each other and finnick refuses to sleep with anyone else. the first time annie comes back with twins and there are rumors that they're yours or one of you had each but people brush them off the best they can because of how unlikely that feels. but eventually it's the country's worst kept secret that whenever you or annie is pregnant you both go off together and pass the baby off as annie's either way to avoid legitimacy issues.

um! so!!! marigold who spends forever planting and taking care of these new flowers but since it's LA and as a former socal girlie i know how hot and dry that bitch gets in the summer </3 so most of her flowers die and she's all sad and mopey for a bit so like a week later billy surprises her with her own cute little backyard greenhouse so she can take care of whatever she wants whenever she wants without having to worry abt the weather :3

after that as marigold sulks and mourns, billy is lowkey struggling on figuring out what to do and then he sees that little shed thing (is it a shed?? did they ever say that?) that they sleep in bc it’s their room and so he’s moving things around in the room instead of building a whole thing.

he deadass moved the whole room around with graham’s help (and karen’s—for some reason i see her having immense strength despite her size LMAOO) to make room for at least 4 pots and when marigold comes in, she sees the effort billy put in and she’s instantly :D

it was right under the few windows they had in the shed thing so the sunlight would be perfect and billy even got her a new watering can and marigold is so happy and she just kisses him all over his face

billy is a lovestruck idiot so he just MELTS and now every morning he gets to watch in bed while marigold takes care of the flowers with a smile on her face before he pulls her back to bed so they can spend time together as the sun rises.

and then when you properly know each other he hates that graham hangs out with you, that he can't get away from you, or your voice which he finds so addicting. you want to work with graham, but not billy bc he's billy dunne and billy is livid. pouting, moping, he's the same way at parties when you only talk to graham. he is huffy and slams car doors, gives graham the silent treatment.

you kiss the first time bc of this, you're dancing around and talking with graham, billy is drunk and he breaks into the conversation. being an ass and so you talk in the hallway, arguing, calling each other out and then boom, you've kissed. life changing, addicting.

also bc he's a vampire, you totally let him drink you're blood when you're on and it makes his music better bc you've got that magic in your veins and he's addicted to the taste fr fr, I said what I said

she reads his palm and cards etc etc and it’s all like “you’ll meet someone soon. your relationship will be rocky at first but all will be well! also be careful bc you'll fall to your own hubris and be in danger and will have to rely on someone else to help you” and it’s all legit but he’s like “lmao what a scam” gives her her money and just leaves

and she’s like upset bc most people believe her like she’s well known in town for being a reliable diviner bc fantasy & magic and stuff so like who the fuck is this guy?

they keep running into each other bc whimsy probably keeps getting into situations when foraging herbs for her tinctures & stuff (she keeps disturbing these fuckass monsters in the woods and everyone’s like girl stop going into the fucking woods) and billy keeps having to save her prince charming style except he’s still this like drunk pirate jack sparrow wannabe

at one point HE’S the one that gets in trouble and she has to save him (fucked around w a bear or smth that whimsy is friends w bc in my head her DND class wld be druid)

they lowkey fall in love after this and when she’s nursing him back to health bc the bear got his ass she’s like “so much for the cards being phony huh?” all huffy but self assured that she was right and he just kisses her!

pirate billy who's stuck in this fuckass town because his boat wrecked (siren induced) into the rocks and billy narrowly escaped (side note ik there are a lot of mermaid!reader x finnick but how many of those versions of finnick are pirates...I need to know for research purposes...anyways) so he narrowly escapes with his brother and is trying to put together a new crew and get money for a ship (aka the band) billy is cocky and a drunk and just too serious and full of himself most of the time but also has this charisma to him.

and graham is the one the town gravitates more towards community wise because he's just sweeter and more willing to believe things, while billy (huge riot with the girls in town) is still a drunk and obsessed with feeling like a successful pirate again. so graham is like "if we want a crew and money until then, we need to get to know people, follow town customs" so they go to you. the town's fortune teller and you make little tinctures at your apothecary and talismans.

graham believes in it (especially since you can tell he likes the rush of pirating, enjoys it even, but wants to settle down eventually, have a family, fall in love) and you warn him to be careful and find someone who aligns with his dreams before he falls (he does not heed that advice because he still falls for karen). and then there's billy. he does not believe a single thing you're saying, things it's all psychological trickery and lies, plus he makes his opinions very known. you tell him how he'll get the things he wants eventually but only once he's opened his heart and mind to what's around him. but some sort of danger may befall him if he lets his hubris get in the way, and someone unexpected will save him. that love is coming into his life. he scoffs, brushes it off, and you're offended because who is this man to come into your village, into your shop, and act so superior?

you immediately cleanse when they leave (graham mouths apologies at you and tips you extra).

of course you always go looking out in the woods for crystals and plants or mushrooms, and you take some things that are supposed to protect you, but you have your own hubris. you don't expect anything will ever get you (you've always gotten yourself into trouble and habe a habit of barely escaping) but something usually does try and attack you. there are all sorts of goblins, and orcs, werewolves are always a huge danger when you go out during full moons to charge crystals and make moon water and get certain plants that only bloom during the full moon, trolls, and so many other things.

and there's billy...who has become convinced based off of old town folklore there's some sort of treasure buried in the woods somewhere so he is desperately trying to locate it. and so he starts suddenly playing your knight or prince charming, he always complains about it afterwards and how it's crazy that you're out here at all with no means to protect yourself (you point out that he is out here too and you have spiritual protection, so he points out he has a sword) although no one is making him do anything, he's choosing to rescue you. and he gets an adrenaline rush when he does it, not to mention afterwards when you walk back to your shop together just so he can "make sure you stay safe and don't get you're dumbass in trouble again" you both go between bickering that becomes more and more conversational (and more laughing and flirting) as time goes on.

one day you do accidentally slip that you know where the treasure is, but it's a little cove type area through the woods. he immediately starts planning going the next day and you warm him that nobody does because of kelpies. he scoffs because he couldn't possibly fall for that if he knows they're there, but you assure him that they can be very persuasive and aggressive, people from your town have died going out there even though they knew as well. whether that's by being in a horse like or a human like form. he scoffs, you argue, and he reminds you that it's absolutely none of your business. so you both huff and you storm into your shop/house and he storms back off to the inn (most times when he saves you, you invite him in for a meal to thank him).

anyways you can't sleep because of the pit of dread in your stomach that he is going to go. you're up all night, tossing and turning, and early morning sitting by your window and working out in your little garden until you seem him setting off. so you wait and then you follow him, he almost catches you a few times, but you've survived this long in the woods because you know how to be quiet and sneaky (and sing to animals that want to be sung too) (and to be honest subconsciously you had started being clumsier when you realized he would always be around to save you and you wanted to see more of him...it wasn't a conscious decision, but you had suddenly gotten in a lot more trouble than you had the years before). so you follow him through the woods and to the other side.

of course the kelpies are there although they don't appear until he's nearly dug the treasure up (he's so close that from afar you're sighing in relief because maybe you were wrong this time which is crazy because you hate being wrong, but he's safe and that's what matters) but then of course there's a kelpie. a kelpie who becomes a man, billy tries to dismiss it, but the kelpie is imitating his father, the father he barely remembers since he is still daddy issues central, making him more emotional, bringing him closer to the water, making it harder for him to think rationally. he's getting alarmingly close, the type of close that is going to get him dragged in. and you really are just in time when those seaweed like strands start trying to stretch themselves out, to pull him into the waters and take him far below.

there you are, grabbing him, pulling him backwards, out of reach and away from the water as much as you can. he's shocked as it turns back into a horse, mostly because of the emotions of it all. but you pull him back into the woods as he stumbles following where you guide. then you're safe in the woods and have half the mind to slap him for his stupidity and not heeding your warning when he suddenly starts crying. tearing up, thinking about his father, all the damage he did, and you stand there for a moment and then just hold him. let him cry until he's done, the rest of the walk back is silent. he's too upset and you're still furious inside mixed with the pity you feel.

when you arrive back at your little cottage of a shop you tell him, not ask, tell him to come inside and he does as much. comes in and instead of you starting a fire and making a soup like you usually do while bantering with him, you pry up one of the loose floorboards and stars lifting up sacks of coins, of money you've saved over the years.

"is that enough?"

and he's taken aback, no idea what you're asking, "what?"

"is that enough for you to buy yourself a boat and never do something that stupid and dangerous again?" and he just stares at you, dumbfounded in a way that screams yes so you get up off the floor and walk towards him still so stern. "then take it and go take whatever crew you've made and sail the seas to your hearts content without getting yourself killed. it's honestly ridiculous-"

and then he's kissing you and you cannot help the way you melt into it, the way your lips dance together, like it's meant to happen. kissing you until you're both out of breath when he says the unthinkable, "come with me?"

and you don't know why, but you do. tale as old at time, at least the pg version you tell your children in the future. you get to see the wonders of the world and share your spiritual abilities where you land and it's perfect (besides the fact you and billy definitely still stubbornly argue and you have to hear him and daisy fighting, and eddie arguing as well)

billy's shop is always loud as fuck with people trying out guitars and jamming out etc etc and whimsy gets upsetti spaghetti and is like "bro who tf is fucking up my zen vibes >:(" so she goes next door on her lunch break to just tell billy the fuck off

he's like "it's not like anyone buys crystals anymore, who even believes in that spiritual shit?"

and whimsy is just like "EXCUSE YOU who the fuck do you think u are you lindsey buckingham wannabe?"

they have a little rivalry for ages and eventually fall in love bc billy has to admit the candles she keeps lighting smell great and whimsy does recognize billy's talent on the guitar sigh

billy gets a little shop on the strip where you can buy vinyls and he plays music so fucking loud and you can try out different instruments.

and you have your little spiritual shop, people come in to buy crystals and tarot decks and get advice, she does yoga classes and sells spiritual books and suddenly billy's shop is so loud and messing with that. and you can tell his aura is completely off, you're cleansing even more around your shop and the front door. he hates the smell of the sage and inscene when he's walking into his shop every morning.

after the first week of letting him have his welcome you finally go over after he started blaring his music and bothered the early morning yoga class. confronts him about it and he is so dismissive, laughts it off, says it's his shop and he isn't going above the state noise laws. you're rightfully pissed and storm out.

you're anger at the noise starts messing with your vibes too, the cards and energy are harder to read and it's making her even her more pissed off. and the way he comes in the morning and the smell of your insense and sage, he can see you teaching yoga and hear your voice and he secretly loves it and resents it too.

he acts like no one would go to both shops but people love buying vinyls and crystals one right after the other. and you both shit talk the other nonstop so customers totally feel like something is going on.

when you do get a card read done that's about how annoyed you are with him it starts talking about love and makes you think you're more off with your energy.
