I love stories, and the stories of folklore and myths have become a new favorite of mine. Offering a new level of magic and insights free from the constraints of our everyday laws of physics and rationality. Take this painting. A portrayal of Astraeus, the god of the night sky and Eos, the goddess of dawn, ruling over the sky together, equal in power and elegance. Through their bond their family grew, naming Astraeus as the god of astronomy as their children too were powerful gods of the sky including: the 4-Winds and Boreas. This Gouache painting with a gold foil leaf crescent moon, depicts the two sky deities intertwined in a cosmic dance, bringing together the light of the dawn/dusk with darkness of the night. This time I give myself a lot more time: to learn the language, to do more wondering and wandering without plans, opening my eyes and ears to subtle nuances. . It’s a little tough with the heat: too hot between 11 AM and 6PM. It would be hard to give up seven hours of not exploring when you’re on a short visit, but this “not rushing” was exactly what I was looking for.
