Soundwave huffs through his vents as he looks at the floating deployer before him in Maccadam’s bar Great, just great. The sign, once a warning, is now an invitation.

He eyeballs the deployer. Voidwing codeline, is it? This mech must be from those timelines noted as “Rogue Seeker.” Usually at this point, he would just swing back his energon cube and bridge out, but ehhh.

Soundwave ex-vents and slowly puts his cube down.

His spark twists at the thought of his own lost creations, grabs the young one, and yeets them out the the window to indulge them.

Soundwave gives an angry glower at the gawking crowd at the rest of the bar, and the others all slink away.

Oh boy, it’s a complicated subject for him. Really old art alert through here, but he was brought up with his very successful Vindicator father held above his head by his mother. No other path was open to him despite not being a gifted child whatsoever when it came to actually practicing what he was being taught, to the point his mother carved his crest trying to get SOMETHING to happen. (His father was furious when he came home later that day and saw it).

He did become a Vindicator, by the absolute bare minimum. Although they were better then, his skills in the Light were seriously lacking and he had to improvise his whole life. The Light was more an expectation to uphold than an actual drive for him so he treated it more like a tool.

He eventually inherited his father’s hammer, and then after everything that went down on Draenor, Shattrath happened and he lost his family.  He had been somewhat devoted to the light up until then. He asked for their protection as the city was under siege and he lost them all.

Ever since then he’s barely been able to use Light. He blamed it for the loss of his family but ultimately it was himself he was blaming and redirecting it to something less painful. He was a Vindicator, he was supposed to be the Light that protected them and yet he made a bad decision and trusted they would escape with the rest of the refugees.

He’s too stubborn to pursue something else after all these years. Being a Vindicator/Paladin is all he’s known but he about as useful as a warrior now. He can sputter some flashes, bubbling is about all he can do well and he can keep up Avenging Wrath maybe 2 seconds tops, but the wings are faint and fractured so he avoids it as a last resort to hide them. He obsessively keeps himself strong to compensate, but bashing things is about all he’s good at anymore and he’s more useful with a box of band-aids than he is trying to heal anyone with Light.

   “Ah, you’re just in time for tea!”

After a while, one grows used to being threatened. Rarely a day goes by without Whirl pointing some sort of weapon at him, after all. With little fear of death, that impermanent thing, he’s left with the sort of personality that tries not to fuss about serious bodily harm.

      Politely, he sets a tray of sweets, treats, and biscuits on a table. Two cups, one of which was much bigger than the other, are filled with thin solar energon and set beside a small basket of teabags. 

The “shipping is activism” crowd is a lot. It’s rough because there are absolutely ways that the two can be tied together -- looking at some of the people out there writing really good representation today, a lot of them did get their start in fandom spaces, writing fanfic and talking meta with other fans! And of course there are many examples of people who have turned to fics featuring queer headcanons for comfort in ways that I don’t want to downplay the significance of -- it’s been important for me, too -- and sources of comfort can be critical to marginalized people!

(As an aro/ace person myself, I have some thoughts on how aspec people have been pretty sidelined in that process, but that’s an entirely different conversation)

I think the thing that causes it to cross a weird line is the idea that it enacts significant social change as opposed to providing comfort. At least on its own. Both are really important things, and it’s one reason that fandom is a place that a lot of marginalized people turn to for community and solace. I’ve even been personally involved (in a somewhat adjacent way, but like, helped out a fair bit at the booth) with helping a queer affinity group that tabled and ran panels at a major convention, talking about things like queer representation, and it was genuinely an incredible experience for me. There’s a significant place for that stuff! But it’s not the be-all-end-all and I think there are some people who elevate it to be a lot.... more than it is

Monarch Nebulous is really a complete no-nonsense type, they are more or less emotionless, hiding their more feral personality behind a wall. Keeping that aspect under wraps helps keep their planet stable, the last thing they would want to do is make a decision that could harm everyone.

If you think they have far too many children now, over the rest of their life as the monarch of Andromedus Nebulous will make dozens more using their own frame as an incubator, but also creating them from primordial pools as many ancients did originally.

Tarn’s optics go wide for a moment, before narrowing at the little seeker. “Oh you think you don’t have to be afraid of me? You think a little collar is going to make me come to heel?” Sharp digits reach up to finger at the collar, though there would be no removing it. As soon as his digits made contact with the collar, a sharp zap ran through them. Apparently whatever sorcery was responsible for this wretched thing wasn’t going to allow him to touch it.
